Help me shop please! :D
I want light weight, pack-away waterproofs that I can fold up & take with me on treks. Jacket and trousers separate. Robust but not heavy or stiff. I wont be kneeling down/doing heavy work in them, these are for riding in. They do need to be genuinely waterproof, not showerproof.
Thank you!

Mine are from Aldi which probably isn't a lot of help - not designed for riding but can easily ride in them. I don't have any riding specific ones but normal starting point would be somewhere like Go Outdoors, horse and cycling section.

I just spend a decent amount of money at an outdoors shop (so like £40 for trousers and more for a jacket). Works for a year or so of use for the trousers and so far 2-3 years on my jacket (which can be reproofed so hoping for more).

Goretex or the equivalent. Goretex Paclite Pac Plus or Goretex Active are extremely light and packable. Depending on how fussy you are though, the styles may not be what you want for riding. Sportpursuit have some with at least 50% off at the moment e.g. Montane Pac Plus.

Waterproof trousers never stay waterproof because of the friction between you and the saddle. Some last a couple of month, some a couple of years.

At the moment I have a pair of Breeze Up Monsoon ones. I bought them before Xmas and have worn them once. There just hasn't been the rain to justify putting them on. So I couldn't tell you how long they will last.

Following with interest. I need the same if I'm to do the multi day trail riding holidays that I'm hoping to get fit enough to do.

Anyone tried the just chaps waterproof trousers?

As an alternative, equidry now do a lighter weight mesh lined version of their long riding jackets, I'm mulling over getting one for everyday wear. It would do as an all in one, but not sure how small it packs up to.

I usually pillage the sales in the outdoor shops. My trousers are North Face and have been going 9 years I got them for 40 reduced from 90 and they have been hiking, riding in Mongolia and scraped along the canal side when I fell off my bike. They do need reproofing though. They will pack into a rucksack but I wouldn't say they are the most lightweight or small.

Will be interesting to see if the lighter Equidry stays waterproof. My original has seen lots of wear and lots and lots of rain over a year plus and is still completely waterproof. It does need a wash now though as beginning to look as if it’s had a hard life 😂

I have a Driza-Bone full length coat. I have ridden in it for an hour in UK in pouring rain. A bit of damp got in round my neck at the collar but otherwise I was dry.
I didnt wear it again to ride. The leg loops were not at a convenient heght for a shortish woman to mount easilly and I didnt like ridng with the coat lying over the horse. It would be ideal for mounted police patrolling in walk for hours but I didnt enjoy active hacking in it and it was downgraded to the coat I wore when watching polo in pouring rain.

I just wear a standard (ie. not designed for riding) Lowe Alpine waterproof jacket on my top half. I bought it on eBay in 2014, brand new with tags for around £11. It is breathable, has never leaked in any sort of weather and I find it very comfortable for riding and all outdoor pursuits.

My waterproof trousers are Horseware ones and they’ve been great too.
