I went for the first time in years and I was pleasantly surprised!! When I last went there were pens full of under weight animals but there were lots of cobs and coloured jobbies that were very well looked after.
There was only a couple that I looked that were rather indiscriminantly bred (!) and one horse that was being driven that was lame behind, but all in all its good to see that the welfare, although not perfect has improved.

I'm glad that the welfare has improved and the horses looked better - unfortunately, there are still a lot of coloured horses stolen that end up at Watton.

I didnt go to this weekends one, however I usualy go to monitor a bit for work. Sadly this year some horses got loose in the early hours and one was knocked down and had to be euthanased. Suprisingly all the live horse were claimed but no one knew who owned the dead horse (didnt want to pay top have the carcass removed).

I must say for the last few years there have been no realy bad looking horse. At the spring fair you often get some thin looking youngsters with big mats of winter coat falling off. I guess that even dodgy sellers have twigged to the fact that a poor horse isnt going to make as much money as a well horse.
