Hi everyone, I thought I'd say hello before wading right in, or paddling!

Errr... so... well, I don't ride anymore, haven't done for about 5/6 years, don't own a horse and apart from my old employers don't really have anything to do with the horse world these days. I do have a 4yr old daughter now mad keen to ride, she's just begun and with scarce funds I'm kind of back where I was as a child, beginning, wanting and knowing that there are chances given honest service to get rides.

I think I was possibly one of the last 'city kids' that were self taught in exchange for work and then taken on by a big yards under the YTS scheme - yep I'm old!

I worked mostly for the same employer for just over 20 years, full time for 7 and then I went back to school so part time for another decade or so. I was lucky enough to work in an excellent yard, ride beautiful horses, learn to my hearts content and watch the next generation grow up and compete very successfully. They remain good friends and eventually my daughter (if she stays interested) will probably ride from there too.

I stopped riding myself mainly because I'd had to fight so many odds to do it in the first place that it had alays been more of a drive than a hobby. Through all the years I rode theere was always a job to be done, work, while riding and actually that's all I've known. I've adored riding but never really done it just for fun. Once I hadn't the time to be hopping on 5 horses each day, or even half a dozen at the weekend, I didn't really fancy any other kind of riding.

Buddy nora! I've rattled on! whoops... So, errr - hello?

Oh god, no. Not another rattler..... :D only joking, welcome and I am sure you will have as much fun on here as I do x

So, what will you get daughter to ride?

WOW!! Mucho fast replies!

My daughter had 40 mins on a pony at a local riding school, it was one to one and the girl seemed comfortable to let me play a part. She was (off and on - then more on than off!) rising to the trot within 5 mins.

I really want to teach my daughter, I think every generation does. I just have to find a way to do it.

Hi, warm welcome, I got back into horses when my son started riding 7 yrs ago, ... Now have polo crosse horse and I do carriage driving and I am past 50 now!! It's never too late!!

Hi Ruth :D
I got back into horses after a twenty three year break, because my daughter wanted to learn to ride. I have my AI (from 1978, haha!) so decided to part loan, that way I could teach her to ride, also teach her horse management and ride myself, for the same cost as a riding lesson.
7 years on, daughter is now at Uni, I have two horses and I'm having great fun!
Enjoy the forum xx

RuthM : you have experience so the break of 5-6 years won't matter much. Some things change but not the important things. Welcome & let's hope you get back into riding again & achieve your goals with your daughter. :)

Ooh, can I jump on the bandwagon?! I have only just registered despite lurking for quite a while. I have a welsh d, who has just turned 9, and have owned him since he was a very bolshy, hot headed 3year old - mind you, he hasn't changed much! Ridden and worked with horses from being a child- now work in the NHS. Looking forward to being able to join in the forum now rather than just scanning through everything! Helloooo!!
