My 3 year old coloured horse has a really wavy mane...the longer it gets the more wavy it appears to be. His tail is slightly wavy too.
He is piebald...very tall (3.5 yrs and approx 16.2hh) with high head carriage and lovely paces. Bred in Ireland.
His passport says breed unknown. I asked on here a while ago and it was suggested he may have trotter in him but having researched them they dont seem to have this characteristic..???
He is sport horse build.
This was done early summer..

well one of my sec D's had the waviest hair ive ever seen-like ringlets lol,and my current anglo arab has wavy hair too -he looks like ive just taken plaits out of his mane and tail .so i dont think its a breed characteristic tbh.

Well he is gorgeous! I love to know what has gone in to create my horses but I do love a bit of history anyway I could watch 'who do you think you are' for hours!

Thanks for the input...he was sold to me as an ISH X Warmblood but who knows??
He doesnt really have the same type of trot as the trotters but is that something they learn or is it bred into them??
He has beautiful paces :)
He is 3.5 years old and quite a big lad...the string test suggests he could make 17hh :eek3:

A lot of Irish Draughts (and connemaras) have wavy manes- the result of Andalusian influence - from when the Spanish landed on the West Coast of Ireland.

I think unless you can trace his origins, you will never know, is there any chance you might be able to trace him back?
Horses of all kinds of breeds can have wavy manes so I don't think its anything you can use to attribute his breeding to anything in particular.

I do have the address of the first person on his passport in Ireland who I gather is his breeder. I could write to him and see if he remembers him?? Jester has very distinctive face markings so if I included some pics perhaps??

ETA...I dont care what he is, it wont change him Im just curious. I love the very bones of this boy and just want to know everything I can about him :)

I don't see why not! Or look and see if you can find a phone number for the address. I'd answer you if he had been mine.

(Unlike the previous owner of one of mine that ignored me (I know they are at the same address so it's not even that *sigh*) which was disappointing but their right if they choose not to of course.)

It's amazing what you can find out when you type in the name of a breeder into the internet. Seeing he was bred in Ireland and is a possible ish he *may* be on the register.... Worth giving it a look!

My RID is very very wavy , as is my Clydesdale / D my American standard bred is fairly wavy .
My TB is has a wavy tail because I plait the length into strands after washing and leave it tll it's dry.

yes satanslittlehelper, definitely could be ISH x. I take it the passport is a white IHB one? Blue or green ones would be on the IHB register and breeding recorded. ISH can mean anything- some full irish draughts are recorded as sports horses because their owners didn't take their parents for inspection, as are some almost pure TBs. It would certainly be worth contacting the breeder, you never know what you might find out.....
