Wayne Rooney

If the FA had the cojones to enforce their own rules, there would hardly be a player or manager left on the field:

FA rules state: "A participant shall at all times act in the best interests of the game and shall not act in any manner which is improper or brings the game into disrepute or use any one, or a combination of, violent conduct, serious foul play, threatening, abusive, indecent or insulting words or behaviour."

Not that they ever will, sadly...

What did he actually say?

Instead of being suspended, he should have to donate some of his grossly inflated salary to charity. At least then some good comes of it.

Premiership footballers - vile.

Hes typical of a grossly over paid footballer but then the FA dont give a toss aslong as he keeps scoring goals.

which he didn't do at the world cup and STILL he unleashed a foul mouthed rant at the fans who had saved their hard earned money and paid thousands to travel to South Africa to watch their team...for daring to boo him and his hopeless team as they left the pitch - have to agree with everyone else really, he is truly vile

My grandson aged 7 is an avid Wayne Rooney fan & as a treat my OH was taking up to watch Man U play on saturday but after his latest outburst they arent going.
He should be banned from playing more than 2 matches & heavily fined as a father himself i'm sure he wouldnt like his son to be subjected to the foul language that comes out of his mouth.
Rooney should be over the moon that he scored a hat trick you dont see such violence in other top sports.

Agree with all the others - vile, vile man & to think that some people see this guy as there hero

Hmm I didn't expect any other attitude on this forum TBH. Slate me if you want!
If I were him I would be no longer offering my services to the England (FA run) football team.
Whether or not you agree with the ban, anyone thinking he is the only swearing footballer/fan, has never been to a football match or played the game. Or may be living in a cloud cuckoo land - and don't tell me rugby players or any other sport for that matter, players don;t swear, as I distinctly remember a knighted rower, after an Olympic FInal, swearing into a camera on LIVE TV and that was on the BBC!

IF (and I say IF) every other player were treated the same then fair enough. But a Chelsea player had to be restrained from attacking a fan in the crowd (but still gave them a similar tirade of abuse)...their ban ? NOTHING.
Equal treatment and FAIR treatment - doesn't exist in the FA's world.
I'll get me coat.

I'm having trouble understanding why there is so much uproar about his outburst - surely it wasn't suprising considering he's a young footballer who's enjoyed considerable success and massive wages in his short career? He knows he can do and say as he pleases really - it's not going to have any real impact on his career or life.

I think it's the fact that he went right into the camera and swore continually. At least for me anyway.
Heck, I swear when riding when I muck up or whatever and of course sports people swear. But to deliberately make yourself seen/heard is a bit much.

I couldn't give a toss if he or anyone swears during a match, no doubt tensions and emotions are high BUT he is a proffessional (HA) and should act as such.

I can't stand him. I used to ignore the nastier sides of his personality because of what a good footballer he is, but I couldn't ignore his attitude to the fans at the world cup. He played appallingly, as did the whole team, and the poor fans who'd spent thousands of pounds to be there had every right to boo them. To accuse them of not being supportive enough and to insult them was just ridiculous: Rooney and the rest of the team embarrassed themselves and let down their supporters.
And he's not the only one who gets away without punishment - Ashley Cole managed to shoot someone with an air rifle and get away scot free!

anyone thinking he is the only swearing footballer/fan, has never been to a football match or played the game.

Of course he's not the only one in this sport - or any other.

He just epitomises everything that is vile in football though - although of course he represents the chave culture perfectly.

I am one of those in the camp of "footballers get paid FAR too much" and the fact that they seem to be so far removed from real life irritates me. There is no need for vile, abusive swearing. I am sure we have all and do all swear on occasion but this guy is just a joke - it's not like it's the first time he's made a tw*t of himself is it either.

I think they need a taste of reality - if you acted the way he has in a 'normal' job you're quite likely to have been shown the door long before now but yet all they ever seem to get is a slap on the wrist. They don't have their wages docked, they don't really get fined anything that's really going to affect them.

Maybe what the government should do is take a years wages off him (I am sure he can live on what he has!) and whilst they're at it take more off what these footballers get paid and put it towards the country's deficit - do us all a favour!

Pah, I could rant for ever - footballers and how some of them act really get my back up!

Its the same in any walk of life - the talented and useful get away with more whether that be in sports or industry.

I dislike him on looks alone, he is the epitome of a chav. He looks like an underclass inbred thug who would be in jail if football hadn't been there for him. Its the only thing that gives him discipline and boundaries.

What his wife sees in him is beyond my comprehension, especially after his episode with prostitutes although at least they got paid for it whereas poor colleen has to do it for nothing presumably.

OMG, now you're gonna get me started! I have some experience of dealing with footballers and club officials (managers, etc) from amateur to professional level having been a referee for about 20 years before I suddenly realised what a bunch of ***'s they are and now I have absolutely no interest in the game.
They are, in general, paid too much, have no perspective on how the real world works because of that, think that everyone should be in awe of them and kiss-their-feet wherever they goand that they know best about everything, Rooney is one of the worst, and it starts from a fairly low level in the game too!
When I had an international player screaming and swearing in my face from a few inches about a penalty decision I'd made he was stunned when I told him to '**** off!' Don't think he was expecting that soon backed off and I got praise from the assessor on how well I'd managed the situation, lol. That though was the beginning of the end for me, he was probably on many thousands a week and I was picking up a miserly match fee, why the hell should I put up with that?
In my last match I booked 12 and sent off half a dozen mainly for 'abusive, insulting or offensive language', made myself very popular but who cares!!! :D

There, I'd suggest, speaks the voice of experience!! :D

I have neither time, nor respect for oafs. Privilege should be earned, and respected. I've never met Mr. Rooney, but from what I see of him, he's a prick.

Alec.

Ummmmm, Im a united fan and don't want him banned for 3 games thanks very much!!!

I think people are failing to take into account that it wasn't aggression or anger, it was the adrenaline of scoring the hattrick that put his team in front after being 2-0 down!!!!!! How many of you actually watched the game, not just the clip? I can tell you my language was not great at all during the first half!!!!!!! I think you are taking it out of context a bit!

Massive overreaction to not take a kid to a united game now because of this!!! Errrrr, have you actually heard the language in the crowds? And the chanting??!!! Plus you can clearly lip read what footballers are saying on the pitch - Craig Bellamy in the England Wales game did not say a non naughty word for the entire game I'm sure!

At the end of the day I agree it was wrong that he did it INTO the camera, but it was in the heat of the moment and not done through anger and aggression as people seem to be saying! Yes, I can appreciate not nice for your children to hear but IMO they should know what a 'naughty word' is and that they shouldnt use it themselves. I think the FA are making an example of Rooney because of his high profile and this would not have had the same reaction had it been any other player.

Yes he is a bit of a tit, there's no denying that, but he apologised, and IMO this has been massively blown out of proportion (but then as a utd fan perhaps I am somewhat biased ;) )

My OH is an Arsenal fan and he thinks Rooney should be banned for life. :D

Seriously, I agree that Rooney is not a particularly pleasant character, he always struck me as a bit of a thug, although that might be a bit unfair as I obviously don't know the bloke. But I do agree with those who have said that footballers are way paid too much, there is just too much money in the game altogether.

For one thing, the players think that they can get away with any disgusting behaviour that they care to indulge in. And for another, the richer clubs can always dictate terms so that the less well off clubs end up parting with their best players just to have a bit of cash.

* Not bitter about Andy Carroll leaving Newcastle to go to Liverpool. Oh, no *
;)

Hey this is modern britain..we are living with perverts, sex offenders, dangerous criminals...people who should be in prison but have escaped and are running about on the loose in the community.

I think we need to put things into reality here..it was a few over excited swear words...how can you say he looks like a thug...is this because he is ugly..or does not look live renaldo, all tanned with hair gel, sporting a man bag with monthly membership to David lloyd sports club...poor wayne, when he scores a few goals this season, im sure people will be calling him a hero again
