if u saw my post yesterday, u will kno that abby get very stressy when taken away from her friends and refuses to eat her food, she'll eat her hay but not her feed unless the other 2 are in.

i have to give her antibiotics twice a day and to be honest i dont always have time to bring in the other 2 horses eg when i start work at 7 in the mornin.

is there anyways of hidin her meds in a treat or alternative ways to give her them?? its a large sachet of granules and i tryed a syrup sandwich which failed miserably

The way my YO got my horses antibi's in was to boil a kettle, mix the granules into the hot water, add cold water and then syringe them down, takes a few goes because you need a fair amount of water, but it works!

ETS: The reason you have to use hot water is because otherwise the granules don't dissolve and block the syringe!

Try treacle, or molasses rather than syrup. We make it into a treacle sandwich, then pour more treacle over the bread, and mix it in with a handful of feed.

Otherwise, you could try mixing it with apple juice and syringe it into her.

well i had actually been thinking of syringing it to her with apple juice, but i wasn't sure if that would work, but it would be alot quicker than having to convince her to eat her feed out of my hand, while she's prancin round the box trying to get back out

Syringing is the best way . If it is the big granules you need to make sure you use hot water to break them down as they get stuck in the end of the tube. Powder however is really easy to do.

Sorry the syrup sarnie didn't work SP! I thought you'd be able to do it in the field without even bringing her in so she wouldn't be stressy. I used to use marmalade sometimes instead of syrup and that always worked for me too! My friend has a TB who needed Build Up cubes and he hated the taste. So she puts apple juice in his feed and he wolfs the lot down and licks the bowl clean so apple juice might work though the antibiotics may not dissolve in apple juice. Is it OK to mix antib's with boiling water? No idea.

treacle sandwich or core an apple and pour the drugs in, then poss some treacle and stick the top back on the apple. Works for my horses

Syringe will apple juice always works for us. i dont even bother trying to leave it in feed anymore as at least if you syringe it down you know they have it!!
Dont use hot water as anything over 40 degrees can denature the antibiotics.
having had a year of horses needing us to administer for one reason or another i have found this the best.
