Ways you have helped a horse overcome a fear?

My pony is nervous as I think he has been abused in the past. I am finding I am becoming very inventive with ways to help him over come things.

It took me about 20 minutes to accept a wormer in his mouth, so I cleaned out the empty tube and now put a little bit of apple sauce in it and "worm" him once a week. Now when he sees the tube hes straight there with his mouth open :O)

What have you tried that has worked for your horses problems?

Could probably post a few things on here but running off to the yard. Just wanted to say I agree. Ingenious idea. We have one like that at yard and she refuses to eat hard feed too so will suggest this to her owner

I fed carrots (by hand) from various multi-coloured plastic bags to desensitise mine. They don't spook at litter in hedges anymore.

Mine would literally poo when cars came past.....hence hours stood by the yard gate letting him graze on the verge. I also stuck him in a paddock right next to the road.

Traffic doesn't faze him now. Dandelions are another matter.......
