It's been a while since I last took notice of horse prices, but going through classifieds recently I'm surprised at how cheap many horses are, particularly some WBs. Is it the recession/credit crunch/whatever-you-wanna-call it? Is it something else? There've always been people who find themselves having to sell at a massive loss or for less than they'd like, but it seems there're far more now than I've seen before.

Also, would a particularly cheap horse put you off enquiring about it? If there was a decent reason behind it, open to vetting etc etc would you assume too good to be true (as I would've a few years ago) or give it the benefit of the doubt?

The prices of all breeds seems to have hit rock bottom. There is no reason to be put off looking at a cheap horse as long as you are sensible enough to get a 5 stage vetting.

I always give a cheap horse the benefit of the doubt, i got my mare so cheap that i had to read the add twice . I had been saving up for a year and had been looking for horses in my price range which to be honest some were just awful and not as advertised, then came across my girl. 5 years on and we are still devoted to each other.

I think there seems to be a lot of cheaper horses about at the moment, prob the credit crunch. It would not put me off trying any horse as long as I had seen pics and/or a video and it looked suitable. Often the seller's descripions can be rather exaggerated but that can be true whatever the price. I would always have a horse vetted, even if it was free, as the heart ache and cost when you have one with a serious problem is not worth the risk.

Shame I bought my mare before the prices were slashed...gutted !
