Having one my random thought moments. Always dangerous.

But, in all seriousness, whilst I'm preparing my neddies feed this morning, as I filled the last of the water, just realised, what lengths we go through for our horses sometimes...just on a level of a daily basis.

Take now for instance...my two are out in a field just over a mile away and need hard feed. I don't drive so for the past few weeks, have been walking up carrying their feeds to them twice a day when needed to.
Great big trug bucket, filled with soaked mash...so even heavier possibly than 'normal' hard feed. And all up hill the way there.

So, in total, 4 miles walking a day, just for the sole job of feeding my two.

And then, on days like today also, I then go up the barn after feeding, which is another mile on to walk. And then, walk back home, which is another mile.

And that's just my 'normal thing to do' day to day.

Yet....I'll be damned if I walk the 1.2miles to the nearest shop for essentials!! That can wait till evening when the car's back!!!

Ironic and double standards much lol. :p

What about you guys?

Oh yes! I'm up at 6am and cycle a mile and then walk through dark muddy fields to turn my girl out for 7am, then I'm back home for 7.45am just as OH and toddler are getting up! I don't drive either. Same again in the evening at 6pm but skip out then as well. Most people think I'm mad that I trundle through dark fields on my own. I wear a head torch and the fields are private, a road does run along there though so its not in the middle of nowhere! I am knackered though doing all that and looking after my toddler! Won't get a lay in now until April when she is out 24/7. I am lucky to have her so near though and it is a great way to start and end the day!

I had a friend ask why horses just don't just run away (he's just seen some photos of my boy jumping comfortably post and rail height).
I explained every day someone brought them breakfast, changed their clothes, gave them a nice scractch, dug out the anoying dirt from under their fingernails, them out them out to play with their friends, with snacks readily available at all times, while their mess is cleared up for them.
Later on in the day dinner is handed to them, clothes changed again, more scratching and put to bed in warm safe place with food on tap. In return for this they have to wander around the country side for an hour or two maybe five times a week and occassionally get trips out to see other new and interesting places/ friends.

Would YOU run away from such five star treatment!

No way my husband would let me do that on my own in the dark.

Well yesterday after having to walk 1/2 mile 8 times carrying 4 hay bales (1 one, walk back etc), I did question why I put myself through it :(

And then I see my boy watching me, eating grass over the fence longingly looking at the hay I'm carrying, with not a care in the world and then I know why :)

I think this every morning at 0600 when im greeted with pinned back ears and teeth over the stable door ..... Im carrying a bucket of ****ing food as well!!! :(

It is private fields on the livery yard though I walk through not public walkways, I can cut through their land rather than cycle round the long way on the road which is nsp with lots of blind bends. I used to cycle 4 miles every day to do my pony at 11yrs before and after school!

i think this a lot, mainly in summer when my friends are out sunbathing on those nice hot days, i spend most of it heaving wheelbarrows full of poo up a field, swooning around my mare to stop her getting coated in flys, a nice hack on those days is rewarding though.

Worst is in winter, going over my ankle in a sea of mud to get to her lush green padock, give her food and went in for a hug little madam walked away with her ears back :(
