Monty gave me some really nice trotwork over poles and then some nice canter transitions this morning (still running on a little and anticipating after the first couple, but much improved even in just a few days - striking off consistantly on correct lead). Our stupid o'clock schooling buddies were popping over a crosspole towards the end of the session, and I'd been planning to jump him for the first time this weekend... but he's been such a star the last couple of days I just decided screw it, give it a go.

It was only a tiny wee crosspole, but it was our first jump and I enjoyed it so much that we did it several times :D He's not jumped in at least a year, and it was the first time I've jumped in about 8 years

Can't wait to do more now! Going to see if I can persuade an unsuspecting victim to take pics/video over the weekend.

I really love him, he is just doing absolute wonders for my confidence. Our Wednesday hacking partner said she couldn't believe the transformation - Monty and I led the whole hack yesterday and I was the one constantly looking for canter spots and leading the canters, instead of looking for excuses not to canter at all. This from me, who was terrified to canter him the first time just 4 weeks ago!!

Sorry, gushing luvvy-duvvy post AGAIN! :) :) :) :) :)

TrishC, I jumped a course of 60cm on Saturday... well, actually just three jumps BUT IT FELT LIKE A COURSE. Anyway, I haven't jumped for centuries and just before I did it I felt physically sick. I nearly had a technicolour yawn right there and then on the horse. I did it though (the jumping, not the barfing). My instructor told me that I just need to get out of my comfort zone. I'm planning to play Chicken on the motorway next, that'll be the next step to get me out of my comfort zone:rolleyes:

Oops only just saw these replies!! Thanks all :) and well done Millreef! I actually can't wait to jump more with him, and I haven't felt like that for years and years!

Didn't jump him again at the weekend though as we were all too hungover on saturday (after yard owner's birthday Friday night) to do anything but hack, fence judged hunter trials all day sunday so just lunged him. However, I then had great plans to do a more sizeable couple of fences on Monday but he got his spring silliness and bucked me off  so I hopped back on but he was just being a bit of a thug so I just gave him a quick school in walk and trot (loads of transitions between the two and circles/figure-eights/serpentines everywhere) then did some trotpoles again at a longer distance to get him to stride out... which he did very happily but he was still acting the maggot so I decided that choosing my battles was the way forwards and just let him back out into the field to vandalise the place. I hate spring!!

Now I'm away for a week (going to Badminton!) so I hope when I go back home next week I'll have my sane lovely gelding back, rather than a mentalist that's high on sunshine and spring sugar and thinks it's a 2yo unbroken lunatic :D

My boy hasn't jumped for about a year 1/2 and i'm hoping our first one soon goes as well as yours!
I led him over a teeny cross pole last weekend after doing some schooling and he was a little bit excited to say the least. Glad i had him on a lunge line as we had a few circles in canter after the jump which itself was quite big.
I'm glad i wasn't in the saddle as it's been a while for me too and i want it all to go well for both of us.

Well done though and enjoy it, i shall follow in your footsteps!
