Ellie and I did our first ever hunter trial today, and we went CLEAR!!!

This was my first time doing a hunter trial in about 12 years (yes, I was 10 years old last time I went round XC properly!!!) and the first time Ellie and I have jumped competitively since 2004. I didnt think we'd ever do anything again, let alone cross country which, even before I had my fall, was always something that scared the life out of me!!!
I cannot tell you how amazed I am; when we walked the course last night, there were at least 3 fences I thought I'd be bypassing full stop - I've got such a hang up about ditches, water and drops, and this particular course was full of them! But when it came down to it today, Ellie was going so beautifully that there was no way I wasnt going to have a go at them all. And she was a star; there was a nasty rail with a wide ditch in front that I was totally freaked out by, yet Elz just popped it - she didnt even look. And we had a pretty big 'hesitation' at the down element of the quarry, but she didnt step back and ended up taking a huge leap....eek! The rest was simple; she was happy to go into the water, she flew the ditch without a glance, and even jumped through the sunken road without freaking out at the 'fallen tree' we had to jump (another of my Bogey fences!) Weirdly, the only one we nearly came to grief at was the steps - she's normally excellent at steps, but today I think we had a wee bit too much impulsion and kind of ended up in a heap at the top! Which was the opposite problem to what many other people seemed to be having....lol!
We went through the finish and I felt like crying; I never thought we'd actually do it. The loveliest thing was not actually feeling eaten up with nerves....even when we were BSJAing all those years ago, I dont remember ever feeling quite so relaxed before a competition. It was just FAB!
We also bumped into fellow HHOer Skewby and her lovely boy, which was wicked
I'm going to post all the lovely pictures that my brother has taken for me in the PG; here are a couple of my favourites though:
I only just noticed as I was posting this about the lady in the background....ooops!

Thanks for looking! From a chuffed-to-bits MizElz x
