I am so happy, my horse lost a shoe beginning August and farrier either didnt turn up or kept rescheduling appointment, then 3 weeks later my horse had an abscess and wouldnt let anybody touch his leg, then I was away for 2 weeks, once back I have made numerous attempts to get farrier with no luck.

Anyway 2 weeks ago I finally gave up and contacted a different farrier who only comes over every 6 weeks, well he came today dug out where the abscess had been (said it had been a huge one) and re balanced his fronts (if thats the right term) and put shoes on. New farrier was so good cause my boy can be a bit awkward but he was talking to him all the time and taking it slowly, did have to giggle though cause farrier was saying what a good little lad he was and my boy is 17hh.

So I finally managed to ride my horse after 12 weeks and it was heaven. The only down side now is the clocks have changed so cant get much riding in but the upside is new farrier is now coming over every 3 weeks so if he pulls a shoe I dont have so long to wait.

Can't believe your horse lost a shoe 3 months ago and it's only just sorted......?!?

On top of that an abscess? Was that treated by anybody - vet, for example? What has happened to the other 3 feet/shoes in the 12 weeks that nobody has done anything to them?

I hope your new farrier is a little bit better and that you have learnt to be a little less patient/neglectful?

No I cant quite believe it either but had been with same farrier for years and usually only had to wait up to a week.

Horse was treated by vet for abscess, other 3 shoes came of, 2 with a little help from me.

Yes new farrier seems to be great and yes I guess I have learnt not to be so patient but certainly wouldnt say I have been neglectful.

glad to hear its all sorted. and don't worry about the fact the farrier is only over every 6 weeks, i did it for a while and never had any problems. better having to wait 5 weeks for a shoe to be put back on then 3 months!
