After many worries, catastrophes, lots of box rest, trips to NEH, remedial farriery, abscesses, teething problems and the conclusion that yes, my meant to be 16.1hh baby has grown to over 17hh..

Finally, at age 5 the baby has now had his first solo ride around the yard (with the in-case-of-emergency rope and helpful ground-mum) with just me on top to guide him and keep him happy!
Honestly though, you have no idea how proud I am of him. After being told twice last year that we were close to losing him (the pedal bone fracture was pretty bad, and then he went and broke the screw keeping it together while on box rest!), and then having a heart-attack moment earlier this year with a particularly bad abscess (or bad for him at last.... he's a big wimp) in the same foot.... I literally could have cried after this ride.

Look at my good handsome boy!
(He's a bit chunky right now, I know.... we're working on it ;) )

Thank you all! It's felt like a lifetime of problems and waiting.... but I feel like actually maybe it'll be better in the long run having backed him now as a 5yo as opposed to backing him at 3-4 like everyone else has done with their youngsters around me! Especially considering the growing he's done!

Oooooh, he's nice! Going to be a real stamp when he is riding away. Keep us updated, I am pleased that you seem to be over the worst of it and can now crack on. Congrats!
