.... to sell Wellington.

As many of you know we bought him in Nov as one of 3 colts from a dealer. He was poor, and in need of some serious tlc, worming and stability. He has seen several vets and is now rid of worms, and everything else he had, with no apparent physical permanent damage. His stomach ulcer (which 2 vets believe stemmed from their ridiculous 'weaning' which was non existant) was brought under control, and after several doses of Vi sorbin & then Red Cell, and a healthy diet and great grazing, he is picking up lots. He picked up well after being gelded, and responded almost instantly to slowly moving over to Suregrow.

He however still has a long way to go and, despite constant and consistant contact every day and being treated respectfully and quietly, is halter broken but not much more.

The 2 other colts (now also geldings) are ready for the show ring and are friendly, strong and brave. Welly is the opposite, and needs a huge amount more done with him. Time which we just do not have, he really does need one on one and a huge, huge amount of patience and understanding. It has been a long long time since I came across a youngster as timid as him, and wary of his own shadow.

Some of you may wonder why we took him on, well, it was a case of I was not leaving him where he was, and we have brought him on a long way. He is going to be a star, one day, and I will see him and feel sad in a small way that we parted, but happy he secured a great future.

Sorry for waffling on, I just wanted to try to clear my head, and hope with everything crossed, he finds a special home.

So whilst it has been a very hard decision I Know it is the right one for Wells.
I hope our ad is honest and attracts genuine enquiries. Will keep everyone posted as so many of you have been very kind and helpful with your advice on him. Our quest begins...

How terribly sad for Welly

I know AM, it is sad, but in the long run we know it will be for the best. Plus, he's not going anywhere fast, it will be once we are happy the home really is the best we can find him, ideally local, and with company, in which he thrives. If we are just plagued with scumbags excuse the term we will of course keep him. Going to take more pics of him and a vid of his movement, so will also upload. He is sweet lisadee, he really is, and I hope one day destined for greatness. x

I completely agree storminateacup and as I say, if we dont get an offer from a home that can offer him 'more' time, effort and care than we can, then that is exactly what we will do. Im not even doubting the fact that one day he will be superb, but , i just dont feel we are giving him Enough, but we shall see. x

I think with situations like these, patience is the key. I - like you - was indecisive about a foal i had bought, though i was patient and now a 3 year old is riding and i love him to bits, don't expect too much too soon. Is this the first time you have had a foal or have you had them before?
