hi all!

9 months ago i moved to a yard with loads of hacking!

but i couldnt go anywhere alone because he would just plant and the end of the drive way and there were no amounts of kicking treating whipping flexing etc that was going to make him move i stood for 3 hours once trying to get him going... the only thing that rometly worked was carrying a lunge whip! but i couldnt do that all time my arm ached and i looked stupid!

but finally after hard work tears and ALOT of tantrums we can now hack 7 mile round trip on our own and have a few good gallops :D

Well done, I know how annoying it is when they just plant themselves,I could not even get out the yard for a while, he has improved loads now, but we do still have the odd day when he decides to cement himself to the spot!!!!

Pines of rome, he sounds like my lad he was horrible I hated him planting himself because I have to hack to meet friends aswell and it was just a hindrance. He would do anything but go forward.

Occasionally we have a moment where hes going to plant him self but I have to nudge with my legs and he will carry on walking albeit it extremely slow for 5 mins then picks up speed again when he realises we are not going home.

But yesterday was our first even proper hack on our own without needing any persuasion.

It was a long road and I cried a lot!! And gave up quite a bit! But after months of inhand walking trotting and cantering with just me, and also hacking with friends and pushing him to take the lead etc. and then doing little walks on him round the block it has all paid off and we can gallop in the sun on our own!

Well done. Is that your ex race horse - I think they sometimes have confidence problems going out on their own as they are used to being in a pack as it were and not having to think for themselves. Someone at our yard took the best part of a year and now that hacks anywhere and everywhere on its own.

Looks like lovely hacking to enjoy.

Humblepie yee tbis is my exracer. He use to be fine hwcking oit on his own whn i first got him. Then i moved to a yard with no hacking so for a year n half he did nothing but school n jump so i think thats why it was a struggle as he use to rave in a group to now i can happly gallop him witj friends. We are settled on this yard i love it and yes amazing hacking and marleys really enjoying himself he gets to liveout. X
