My mare 320 days today. Her lower hinds are swelled with fluid, she left half her haylage last night, and shes bagged up and the crease between isnt much now.

Ideas please, im a first time breeder. Are we talking weeks, months, or days?!

Thanks

Who knows, my girl is 340 today, not bagged up, but very slack behind, puffy vulva. Had me up half the night kicking her belly, mooching round, tail swishing. Turned out this morning, rolling and swishing but udder gone down AGAIN!! Look for wax or dripping milk (very close but doesn't always happen) teats filled, slack puffy vulva. Any change in her normal behaviour then keep a very close eye (as i have been for what seems like forever)

good luck

Hi thanks for your reply, hope she doesnt keep this up for that long! Her vulva has slacked off abit too.

When did you start checking at night/ become a night watcher?! When do you think i need too start checking her at night?

Has she had a foal before? My girl is a maiden so i don't know how she will react to a baby in her box!! i feel for that reason i need to keep a close eay and will hopefully be there for the birth. I've had her on cctv camera since 315 as we had a bit of a funny turn back then so thought she was going to go early (some hope) I'm lucky as cctv is in my bedroom so i do check her from my bed. At the moment i'm waking to check her every 1 1/2 to 2 hours all night. Sometimes like last night she gets my hopes up so i end up watching for 2 or three hours. If her udder was full together with the other signs i've got i would be probably sitting up but her udder is very disapointing, so i'll stay as i am for the time being.

Same goes for me ,my maiden mare is 350 days ,she has been showing behavioural signs for weeks ,although no udder still, but an elongated vulva ,slack muscles ,baby is centered
and her belly has dropped .
Ive been watching with the CTV at night since day 333.lying
on the sofa while my husband snores his head off in that
wonderfully comfortable bed .As she is maiden and I previously lost a foal that was a difficult birth ,I dont want to risk not being there .So another night on the sofa .
You will probably have a lot of false alarms but in the end it will be worth it .

My daughter had a foal born last night to a maiden mare. Udder showed no sign of change until about 4 in the afternoon, when it filled and there was wax, by midnight foal was born.

They are all different, so it really is just a case of watching.
