We have hay :) always a great feeling

Good luck hopefully the weather will shine for you, i became obcessed with who has cut/who hasnt cut, we managed to bale ours 350 large haylage bales {our grass is just so thick} but its done yay.

It's been brilliant hay making weather, being dry, warm and windy, and the hay after being turned three times is now rowed up ready to be baled.

The baler manages a few then breaks down. Repair not possble til tomorrow earliest. Folk are off trying to borrow a spare. Light rain forecast for tonight.

If anyone begrudges paying £3.50 for a small bale, I will deck them.

Arghh, I need gin.

So sorry to hear that, TP. Been there, done that. Finally put my B47 baler up for sale. The poor buyer came from the other side of Scotland and towed it back behind his pickup. Highly illegal, but hey, this is the Highlands! I haven't dared to go over to the west since! Poor chap.

I've now got a Welger and they are about as reliable as they get. But because the weather is so unreliable, I generally get my neighbour in with his round baler, another Welger, and he tears around and has it baled up in no time. I'm bringing in the bales now, one at a time.

I really do feel for you, TP. If you get it fixed, I'd suggest putting a few 4x4s through it by hand before next year to make sure it's working. Some of the older balers were designed for sisal string and don't like the modern plastic stuff.

Even if it rains, it is not the end of the world. Just turn the row when it is dry again so the ground underneath can dry. I've never lost my hay in over 30 years and it always gets some rain up here.

Oh dear Gods, guess what I bought...??! We've spent the last couple of weeks getting the stuck bits freed up and everything greased and it should, in theory, be good to go, but we won't find out for sure until John brings his tractor up towards the end of the week and we put a few old bales through it.

My first fields are still on the ground unturned, but looks like we might get a decent weather gap from Friday, so fingers crossed.
