Well, i carried on with the loose ring snaffle and running martingale combo etc that i was managing okay in , but still having trouble with Darcy leaning and being strong etc.
Anywho, ended up going flat out down a hill into a cornfield

Ibiot!!

When i half halted etc at the beginning, he backed right off and just threw his head up in the air, before then taking off to catch up with the horse infront, by pass and then bolt again.

So, i need something to lift his head off the floor, without then lifting it as high as he currently is. What would you use? (All checks etc up to date, apart from saddler who is coming out soon.)
Suggestions so far are loose ring waterford, and a loose ring cherry roller.
Thanks

I would say a loose ring Waterford or even a hanging cheek Waterford.

I have a Waterford snaffle you are welcome to try!

Thanks, but i have one on stand by at the yard for me to try

I was worried about them because he otherwise has a soft mouth , but i suppose i can at least just use it when i need too.

Cheltenham gag. it can be loose ring. it is as strong as you want and when you relax the rein it is a normal snaffle especially on two reins or can always use pelham roundings (hide it from the traditional folk tho!!)

Waterfords are good for leaners, however a hanging cheep type one with the poll pressure may encourage his head down which you don't want. I would try either a normal loose ring waterford or a gag type bit.
