I know it’s probably long over due but was one we just couldn’t get the hang of.
Bert had absolutely no idea and maybe I was going about it the wrong way (it has been known 🙄!! )
Anyhow, recently we have discovered the love of a squeaky ball, it’s so awful and loud that I’ve banned it from the house and he’s only allowed it while we poo pick the field.
It’s been the best find ever 😂
Runners/dogs/ anything passes the field I squeak the ball, full attention on me.
He shows interest in anything at all, good smells, fox poo.. squeak and it’s no longer important! 🎉
I think I’ve accidentally squeaker trained him rather than clicker 😂
Anyhow the past few days we have worked on sit (easy anyway) and stay while I back off. Previously just impossible. Now easy, I can back quite a long way and his prize is the ball afterwards!
It’s working better than treats!
So chuffed with the little monkey!

Well done Bert and well done you for finding what works for your dog. My youngest responds better to treats, the older one (she's 2) gets her reward a rubber duck - minus the squeak because she killed it.

He’s always liked a noisy toy but this was something else hence being relegated to outside only. It’s dying but they are £1.50 from Morrisons so guess where I’m off to tomorrow!

I doubt it will work yet in other situations but practice makes perfect 🤞

At least she’s zooming laps around instead of away!
Worth a try! I think I made the ball exciting by just playing with him before it really occurred to me we could actually use it as a tool rather than just a super annoying toy!

I've got her a new fluffy tug toy. She doesn't know it squeaks yet as I didn't want to give it to her without something decent to trade for it back be even still she was very, very excited when I showed her it!

One time she did get further distracted mid zoom and trotted off away from us over the brow of a hill. Heart in mouth moment, found her just sniffing something. Obviously it was very important to sniff to disrupt the zoom.
