Daisy and I went for our first every hunt today and it was really great!
Coming from a non-horsey family I never had the chance as a child but have always wanted to do it. We went out with the readyfield bloodhounds and we couldn't have been made more welcome. People were really friendly and helpful. She was fine in the first gallop because she hadn't realised what was going on. In the next few gallops she went like a loon bucking and flat out and I was wondering what I had got myself in to but then she settled and we had a lovely ride.
I have something of a phobia of jumping things which won't knock down but we even managed four small fences. She refused the first one but I don't think I rode her at it enough, with a lead and me being more positive she was a little star.
She was flagging a little by the end of the day, I would have said she was reasonably fit but nothing could have prepared us for today. I'm definitely going to go out again so any tips on getting a horse fit enough for hunting would be welcome.
I'd definitely recommend hunting for anyone that is curious but hasn't given it a go.
