As this will probably be the last of good weather, myself and two others from the yard decided to hack to Knettishall Heath for a picnic today. I was a little apprehensive about taking Tarquin as he's still a little bit dodgy out and has limited experience of people, child, dogs and bikes. However he turned out to be a star. We only had to ask one dog walker to put his dog on a lead as Tarquin can be funny about loose dogs. Then we met a herd of children and adults on a narrow path and Tarquin did the off into some bushes, but was ok and then walked past them I explained, 'don't worry he's only a baby, he's more scared of you then you are of him.' To which one man said, 'isn't he a bit big to be a baby.' We all had a laugh later at that one, non horsey people do seem to assume that big horses are older than small ponies.
Then we set up camp next to the river in the main car park, the girls tied their horses to the fence but Tarquin wasn't that calm to begin with so I sat on the fence eating my food and held him. Well he did try to eat my food as well, he likes sandwiches, pizza, Mingles, satsuma and drank some Strongbow!
As we'd bought some cans for refreshment, although after being bounced about in the saddle bags they were a bit wild to open.
We then tacked up and rode home, we decided not to go in the river as there were loads of people lying around it with no shoes on and Tarquin can be very wild and has never been in a river ridden before.
But I am so proud of him to go all that way and be so good when I've been having a bit of a rough time with him recently. It reminded me of why I have horses, which is for own enjoyment and relaxation. Sorry it is long, one proud mummy I'm afraid.
