Hello my horse has weak feet, with long toes (the farrier is working on this) Can anyone reccomend a not too expensive supplement that will help them grow and be less brittle. He eats dengie healthy hoof BOSS and a few pony nuts atm. Any tips would be fab!

Thanks

Have you tried applying Keratex(sp?) to your horses hoofs.
I used it on one of my horses and found it worked really well.
Although buying it seems expensive,it does go along way

tried formula4feet and farriers formula on my mare but the best by far we've come across is newmarket hoof supplement

I dont find painting things on very good, I dont turnout in the morning and its geting muddy feet clean and dry to put it on, thats why i thought i would try something in his feed. Thanks tho!

I used a Biotin and calcium supplement that I got from www.hyperdrug.com. You can get 1.5kg for £7.50, and it made a huge difference to my mares feet.

Bear in mind if you are feeding a supplement that you are looking to feed something long term, as improved hoof horn has to grow through from the top of the hoof. You cannot improve the hoof that you have already with supplements - it has to work its way through.

I use the hoof product on my tb he had the same problem long toes and poor quality hooves. He has been on this product for 2 years and his hoof quality has really improved.A large tub lasts over 3 months costs £27 and is postage free.If you need a instant hardener keratex is good we used it on my daughters horse when she had crumbly feet .She is on dengie healthy hooves but my horse needed more than biotin and the above supplement has helped.

Topspec balancer. Worked out cheaper than using a vit and min supplemet and a hoof supplement and look 100% betetr than they did when was just on NAF biotin.

D&H Surefoot

Keratex hoof hardener once a week - lasts for AGES!!!!!

Hypona balsam everyday (from my farrier - smells gorgeous and really does the trick.)

I give my horse a feed balancer - for the same reasons as you, he has poor quality horn.

This provides all the nutritional support he needs, without breaking the bank. £16 per bag compared to £30-40 for things like farriers formula etc.

May be worth considering??

Blue chip is the one thing that has worked on my friends 2 TBs appalling feet, along with a very good farrier. They have been on it for roughly 12 months now and their feet have never been better. No more extra visits to put shoes back on, stressed farrier wondering where/how on earth he's going to put the nails etc etc

In the preceding 3 years, she'd tried formula for feet, farriers formula, biotin, keratex, kevin bacon, conucrescine and other things I can't remember now. She now does Kevin Bacon only in addition to the blue chip.

ETA: The bag of Blue Chip lasts about 10 days fed to 4 horses at the recommended dose. So I guess 1 bag would last about 6 weeks, cost roughly £1 per day then.

Well I know a lot of people on here really rate Top Spec. I am using Redmills though as I find it cheaper at £16 per bag, rather than £30 ish for Topspec.
