My six year old lab x keeps splitting nails. Last time had to have antibiotics and painkillers. She's just done it again. Any idea what I can give her to strengthen them?

She walks on fields and grass tracks mostly. She does love to chase a tennis ball. Her nails are kept fairly short. They just seem a bit weak as it they tend to crack.

It might be that twisting/sharp turns after the ball might not be so good for the nails if they're not strong to begin with so I'd maybe try and phase that out if possible?
The ground is quite hard here at the moment so that's another thing to factor in.
You could also look into boots?
I have one with longer nails in front due to foot conformation but rear is fine, they stay naturally short between floor surface and road work.
Like I say a biotin supplement might help, or fish oil.

They can get an illness that causes broken nails, Thistle had a lab that had it. Something auto immune related?
