what do you feel is the best way to wean, it is the only foal on the yard.
what age do you feel is best.

a scary question have you ever or would you ever put the foal in a stable which is closed up to wean it , i read this in a book yesterday and thought it seemed very harse

Well it depends on what facilities you have.
I personally think the best option is to turn out with other youngsters, though this is not always possible.
One of our mares used to wean them herself at 6months! it was great, but the others mares were'nt so spectacular. If i remember correctly we did stable one of our foals as they kept jumping the fence.

Also when i did work experience at a cob stud years ago i remember they stabled some of their foals to wean.
