Wearing rings while riding?!

If I knew more at the time, I wouldn't have gone for white gold for my wedding ring. It looks very worn now and could do with being "redipped" but that costs a pretty penny. Should have spent the bit more and had platinum.

I spent the first month or so grinning every time I caught sight of it sparkling on my finger!

I do exactly the same.. still and I've been engaged for 9 months now

I actually got blinded when I first got it as I was looking at it sparkling in the sunshine and then the light hit it in the wrong way - ouch!

You could make it an annual anniversary treat from Mr Halfstep to get your ring replated?

I think they recommend every two or three years for replating white gold? Especially something worn every day.

Mr FigJam just knew that I'm so un-girly when it comes to looking after jewellery (my wedding & engagement rings are pretty much the only things I wear on a daily basis) that it was better to get the tougher metal! (I'm surprised I didn't end up with stainless steel instead!

That must be some rock!

I thought it felt really odd having a ring on that finger at first, but it now feels odd if there isn't one. Like Gamebird, I also have a groove where my rings sit (and a very dodgy tan line if I ever get the chance to see the sun in the summer!

) and a rough little bit of skin where the finger meets the palm of my hand.

Congrats again OP!

my engagement ring never comes off

much to the disgust of the lady who made it lol! she was a bit shocked tbh when i said i wore it all the time but as OH said - it's either i wear it or loose it knowing me

but she's designing a wedding band that will fit round it (it's asymetric and v unusual and chunky!) and be fine on it's own too so may just go to that if i find the two of them too big together

Having lost a finger through catching my ring on a children's slide in 1984 I NEVER wear rings for any activity.
RC rules also state that no jewellery to be worn when riding at affiliated events

I wear my wedding ring under gloves but never anything else to ride in, apart from a sports watch, same for all sporty activities.

It was drummed into me as a child that jewellery and riding/other sports do not mix. It makes me cringe to think of the possible injuries when I see people riding in earrings/rings etc I'm a personal injury lawyer so have seen my fair share of gory photos. I'm surprised all events and riding establishments don't have a no jewellery policy.

I leave all mine at home so it is safe while I ride, I'm not normally precious about my jewellery and wear them for everything else though. A few people I know who work with horses have a plain cheap band for work and keep their real wedding and engagement rings at home for the rest of the time.

I don't think the jeweller who made my ring would mind me mucking out though, he's my old instructors husband and has about 10 horses of his own!

I only wear my rings out and to work. I caught one in a small branch when I was much younger and while there was no damage other than some bruising, it scared the crap out of me. The only jewelry I wear when riding is a chain around my neck that I know will break if it gets caught.

I just had my platinum engagement ring replated last fall as after 9 years of wear it was pretty dinged up!

Keep my engagement ring on but do always wear gloves when riding. OH chose ring himself and bore in mind that it needed to fit under gloves (how impressive is that!).

I wear both my engagement and wedding ring most of the time, the engagement ring is a round solitaire and it does stick up a fair bit, only once did it swivel round and cut my finger but I was not wearing gloves at the time and tbh I always normally wear gloves.

Firstly congrats!!

I got engaged in October and I wouldn't wear my ring while riding. I did one day when riding a particularly fresh one and I was quite conscious of the ring even though I was wearing gloves. The (3) stones are set quite high and also with it being white gold the metal is pretty soft, so would be afraid of bending it!! Definitely wouldn't bring it eventing. I think I would just leave it at home because I would be terrified of losing it!!!

CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!

I wear my engagement ring, which is a solitaire, emerald cut stone that sticks up quite a bit, all the time. Never take it off. I've never had a problem as yet although whenever i come back from xc it has turned around so the diamond faces the inside of my had which is weird!

Would be more scared of taking it off and losing it tbh!!! Day after i got engaged i was at the yard and rang OH, as a joke, saying i'd lost the ring on the muck heap!! Did NOT go down well!!!!!

Personally I wear my wedding ring all the time, but won't ride in my engagement ring (so it languishes in its box most of the time

) If I took it off and on too much I would be SOO scared of losing it.

I think your best bet is FIgJam's suggestion of having one place where you always keep if when you're riding ie glove box of car or purse if horse is at a livery yard, or in box if horse is at home.

I NEVER wore rings (or any other type of jewellery) to ride/at the barn for all the scary reasons above. I saw someone get their horse's mane caught in an earring while jumping once . . .

But I've compromised now and have an "every day" symbolic ring, that's very thin, flat and had only a design, no stone, which I wear all the time. I've squished it into an oval from riding.

The nice ones, I save for when it's safe.
