After moving back to the UK, Haley and I have had the summer off. I am now looking at fittening work for her, but am struggling to get any ridding in. It is either raining so hard, the ground is unbearably muddy or it is blowing a gale (we are in south wales). I think I have ridden 4 times in the past 3 weeks. It is terrible.

Was I spoilt in Dallas or are others having the same problem?

We have an indoor school at our yard, so it makes no difference what's going on outside.
If we only had the outdoor, I don't think I'd bother!!

Mine are competiting so have no choice but to ride in wind/rain/whatever comes my way

!! But it is making a difference what i can do, school is under water so haven't been in there for about a week and the woods are disgusting. We have a great bridlepath though that never gets muddy so i'm spedning mot of my time on there. All schooling getting done hacking too, which is fine especially for the baby horse as he has lots to learn.
Main problem is jumping, can only do that out atm which isn't ideal.Oh for an indoor school.....

please please stay dry this week.....

I'm really struggling to ride after work. The rain is making the roads pretty dangerous to ride on - and the School is not really an option at the moment.

Hey ho role on winter when at least we'll have some proper weather.

lol

Its bloody all right when you have to wish for winter, but its so true. My school is absolutely water logged at the mo, and riding on the roads is not really an option with prat drivers and young horses.

We have an indoor school, allthough I am one of the mad ones that still hacks in awful rain just because its quite fun sometimes!

Yes it's driving me insane. We've got our championship show coming up so I need to keep our horse fit and schooled.
Our school is flooded and has been for most of the past fortnight. The fields are too wet to ride on - we just sink and I don't particularly want her to strain anything or pull a shoe off.
The drive down to the main road (lethal in the daytime) is incredibly slippy and the back drive is so stony that one of the youngsters came back lame from a little walk out yesterday.
The only saving graces are our round pen, altho madam is now extremely bored of going round in circles, the fact that she's quiet enough to turn out if it's not too hideous (altho we're sharing 2 half acre paddocks between 14 horses cos the others are flooded) and we can hire an indoor on one weekend day each week.
It's turning me into a complete stress monster, but I still wouldn't go back to our old yard, even tho it has got an indoor!

Yes I'm going nuts: trying desperately to get my mare going well on the flat / fit for hunting before darkness descends in a few weeks and i'm stuck with weekend riding only, but the field is waterlogged so no schooling. Its so depressing!

Last night it was so ick riding through a muddy field I was thinking its too wet to risk my mare's legs out hunting even now!

I have a handy little plan, it doesn't always work but so far seems to work more often that not.
Stick to my plan to ride , go to yard get ready get tacked up, by then it's only drizzling and we make a mad dash round the block.
Worked 4 times out of 5 so far.
Last winter I tried to school and got off and hid in the stable 6 times in 40 mins, on the 6th go I just gave up.

I have struggled to ride at all for the past few months and the past few weeks I haven't ridden at all because of the weather, cannot school as the fields are so boggy plus he has already slipped over onto his arse so not risking that. I do not dare hack out on the roads, the drivers are bad enough in decent light and dry roads, not going to risk them being a prat and not being able to stop because of the rain.
