Weather Forecast for Winter 2011/12?

Yep heard that to BUT they said this summer was going to be a indian summer/barbeque time/hottest summer for 30 years and well rather wet cold and windy here lol so mmmmm lets just wait and see and prepare for worst and enjoy the best :) x

I heard on the radio this mornig that snow is predicted in a few weeks time and we are looking at minus 19 this winter

I'll be getting a sledge to move the hay about after last year trying to push a wheelbarrow through a foot of snow!

Yes also heard that, and hope to god that they are wrong !!

Anyone else noticed the berries in the hedgerows this year, we have more than ever, isnt that an old tale of a sign of a bad winter to come

what a good idea about the sledge ! I may get the skis out for some practice and strap myself to back of naughty horsey for a yeehaa !

I much prefer cold to mud, so the colder it gets the happier I am as ground is frozen solid. Snow I am not bothered by if roads are passable as my car is awful in the snow!

Personally...I believe the weather forecast will be as follows....

Watch weather report on tv the night before......um and ah about ponies in?....ponies out?...it might rain...it might not....it might blow a gale....it might not....it might snow....it might not....then turn to failsafe weather chart.....in the morning....draw the curtains and see the exact weather that was NOT predicted by the forecasters!!!!

This year for the hay....the 5 day forecast read as:
On Monday we cut the hay:
Monday - Sun
Tuesday - Sun
Wednesday - Sun
Thursday - Sun
Friday - Sun

On Tuesday:
Tuesday - Sun
Wednesday - Sun
Thursday - Sun
Friday - Sun

On Wednesday:
Wednesday - Sun
Thursday - Heavy rain
Friday - Heavy rain

On Thursday:
Thursday - Heavy rain
Friday - Heavy rain

On Friday:
Friday - Heavy rain
On Friday we baled the hay

We had the most amazing 5 days of fantastic sunshine, and warm dry winds!!!!!!!!
Trust no one!!!:)

Pfft thats nothing ;)
It was -25oC here at night here on the Scottish Borders, and it was around that time our oil got nicked and susiquently ran out!
1cm of ice going up the insides of your windows isn't my idea of fun :D

How can 'they' (special weather wotsit people) possibly predict the weather for the months to come with accuracy when 'they' can't even get a 5 day forecast 100% right?
Sure, they can predict, but really!? I can say the weather will be cold, we will get snow between late November and mid January - will I get called a Meteorology thingy-person? Unlikely!! lol

However, I'd rather cold, frost, snow and crisp mornings to that of rain, wind and mud!

I read on DM online that we may have snow in October, or anytime until March next year :D Lmao, way to go DM, we might have snow this winter then! :p

Take it with a pinch of salt, we've had bbq summers predicted for the last few years ;)

Ha, we will be living a 5 minute walk from our yard this year so I don't have to worry about snow! I prefer cold and dry to wet and very muddy though, have stocked up on rugs so they will all be toastie!

I think the forecast said snow in PARTS of the UK Oct to March. I bet if you were to ask people in the Highlands they would probablly think that's a pretty normal winter.
I looked at another forecast that said a little cooler than average with below average rainfall Oct to Dec. Naturally that one didn't make the front page of a tabloid & get publicity for the forecaster.

The berries on the hedges thing is an old wives tale. We have had perfect growing conditions for them, that's all with plenty of rain followed by sunny days makes ideal conditions for plump, plentiful fruit.

As for the snow forecast, I kinda expect snow towards mid/end of october in the scottish highlands!! And as the report said it's forcast for SOME parts of the country.

What the forcasters are doing is hedging their bets and predicting the worst, so if it DOES happen they can say "we predicted it" those old enough will remember the weather report on the evening of the 1987 hurricane saying it will be "quite windy"!! and they don't want to be caught out like that again!

As someone else posted "prepare for the worst and enjoy the best":D
