Weather forecast

winds over 60 mph forecast.
Not again. And more rain? It's only weeks since our village had people taking shifts on the estate's pumps for 36 hours to keep the river out of the lower houses. A friend lost their six sheep because the water rose so high and so suddenly at 2am - she couldn't get to them. The tup was rescued from a tractor but died days later. Many of our BWs and FPs are still blocked with downed trees. And I've only just rebuilt all the fencing after last time! I'm sick of these weather extremes.

The forecast here for Tuesday and Wednesday is heavy rain and wind forecasting around 40 mph with gusts up to 60 mph not as bad as Darragh when we got 80 mph gusts of 90 mph genuinely scary.
I hope we don't loose power again 3 days without power was bad enough plus no phone or WiFi for 2 weeks!
Charging everything up just in case.
It's really wearing worrying constantly about the wind.
It would be nice to actually finish sorting out damage from the last storm before we get hit by the next one.
Stay safe everyone.

Mine have been out 24/7 for the past week but will be back in at night from tomorrow and possibly even for a few days looking at the forecast but at least they have had a week out to break up the winter a bit for them which is nice. Annoyed I’ve not managed to ride the past few days firstly due to the fog, then being busy and working and now work tomorrow too but I guess the horses aren’t as fussed as I think they are but I always worry. 🙈

It's rain and snow forecast we have.
Rugs back on (Tal has only has his on and 50g when its wet for 12 hours or more). Til has lived in her rug this winter but doing better as she's usually in 200g/300g about this time but still in her 100g.

It’s absolutely pants! My field is resembling a bog. Horses have mud up to knee high every day. I’m losing the will. But it is what it is. Older chap would be happy to stay in but I worry about youngster, he should be out. We have the winds and rain already, they’re supposed to be here until Wednesday and then it’s supposedly snow 🤔

The only bonus I can see about having foul weather on NYE is less fireworks....

No sun here since about 30mins on the morning of Christmas eve, Tuesday.
I thought we wouldnt have any fireworks with all the fog and mist around but just as I got on my highly excitable mare who has been in for 3 weeks coz of mud fever so riding twice a day to keep her occupied some delightful sole at the top end of the farm started setting them off. 🫣🫣🫣

No! It’s the first really nasty weather forcast since I turned my horse Ziggy out for a winter holiday. Ziggy can’t bear strong wind and rain in his face so I don’t like him being out in terrible conditions, at home he will gladly stand in for a few days if it’s really awful.
I don’t so much mind my other retired being out in it as he’s been out for ages.
I do now have the incredibly kind option of a barn to put them in but it leaves the old horse in the adjoining field alone and although he has access to a stable his owner prefers not to bring him in. I may have to have a chat with her if it’s going to be as bad as it looks 😬

Its a good job Orbi loves his stable 🤣
I can put mine in which I will be doing but theres a large ash tree which belongs to next door and I worry incase a bough falls off and hits my stable with the horses inside. A rotten one very close by collapsed a few years ago due to high winds and it's age . Neighbour won't let us trim or preferably fell the tree 😔

We are forecast high winds tomorrow and wind and rain on NYD. Mine will go out for an hour whilst I muck out both mornings. Will hopefully get them out in the school later in the day. Not looking forward to it!

If it is encroaching on your garden, chop it with a polesaw 🤣

You are legally allowed to cut back any branches which overhang your property but you must return them to the owner.

Thanks, but the problem is the tree itself it's huge and if it's got the ash tree disease it could drop. One a few meters away collapsed during a storm . Fortunately missed our property. It was diseased. The old guy with the property on which it stands isn't interested in getting it looked at trimmed or felled 😞

Both weather warnings have been cancelled.

Still looking very wet and windy though. Already blowing a hoolie here today.

We haven't had a proper downpour for a while now and my land has been drying out quite nicely in the wind.
I still have a WW for tomo heavy rain and wind but one day is better than two 🤣

Right! Off to the field with a pocketful of connectors to tension the electric tape ahead of the upcoming Weather.

Depending on how badly it gets walloped this time I'm considering swapping it all out for electric rope. I'd really rather not (for safety reasons and because I've already forked out for loads of new tape) but this fence has been so battered in the two months it's been up that I'd be amazed if it's still conducting properly. Luckily my horses are good boys and very respectful. I guess if I put a connector every 30m in that would make rope much safer?
