Don't want to be over dramatic but would you bring in with a warning of large hail and flash flooding during thunderstorms tonight ?

Parts of eastern and southeastern England will see heavy showers and thunderstorms from Monday evening into Tuesday.
25-50mm of rain could fall in a few hours. Large hail is likely and there is potential for flash flooding
 
oh no this has made me panic fred has gone to new home and is living out for first time.....now im panicing she wont put the right rug on him :( Oh good grief somebody shoot me now, talk about cant let go! :o
 
I just keep track of 3 websites during the day. The met office is now saying our area will only have showers, but further East still looks bad. Yes, I will bring in if the forecast says large hail and thunderstorms.

I would not worry about rugging as it is going to be so warm they are better off without, but I will be removing the fly rugs I think. What do others do if it is forecast to rain when horses are in fly rugs?

Unlined turn out sheets if cool enough, naked if still warm when they need to go out or naked turn out and a lovely YO who will go back and rug later (9.00 ish) if she thinks they need it..

oh and btw... while not a wimp and OAP, having personally known a woman whose horse was struck by lightening, I would not want mine out - particularly as we are on top of the downs..

I take fly rugs off if it is going to rain too. Reason being, I tested this ie Micah got wet with his fly rug on, underneath it he was cold and it took a while to dry.
without it when he was wet he was warmer.
Seems the fly rug holds the water and makes him cold

Oh course you then worry that as soon as it stops raining the midges would be around in bigger numbers

Doesn't look like hail where I am and temperatures are still fairly high so she'll probably be out naked.

I also take fly rugs off if rain is forecast but leave on for light showers as they dry quickly in warm temperatures.
 
I'm on the lincs.notts border and the bbc site says sunny, then cloudy later with showers at about 4pm and then again at about 10pm. So I will def be leaving mine out and they don't wear fly rugs so that's not something to worry about.

I think I would bring in if it was forecast large hailstones and lightening

and it definately says Monday 27th January, think somebody at the BBC has got their fingers muddled up then ;)

Alma as you are correct 27th January was a Thursday, however see above link, ive also copied and pasted below - :confused:

I live nearish you also so hoping won't be too bad tonight!

Mine will be out, will take tb's fly rug off in a bit. I keep it on in showers but not if it's chucking it down, he'll be naked as it's far too hot to even LW him! My other one looks like he's developing sweet itch so hoping the midges won't be too bad when it dries up! Can't get a sweet itch rug until the end of the week as nowhere local has his size in (7"3!!).

Brought them in this am as had vet coming for jabs but she was running late and they were in for 2 hours and the tb was screaming towards to the end, so I'v got no chance of bringing them in overnight! (not in the summer)!! They'd be more stressed!
 
LOL, Fat Boy Slim could do with getting his ample backside stung with a few hailstones. Might help shift the fat.

Love the Yob Cob really...Guess, he'll be acting as a windbreak for the mares. He's a softy at heart.

Mum's TB might not melt, but god help you if you've left him out all night in the rain without a rug.
He has this amazing ability of looking like his going to kill you, then looking as though he's feeling incredibly sorry for himself. He's just a huge wimp when it comes to the cold :rolleyes:

Whereas my boy loves the fact that the rain creates giant mud patches in his rolls spots and when I get down there I have a brown horse instead a white horse :p
 
Still waiting for the rain and when it comes I shall be joining the horses in the field. Can't wait to cool down. My lot love a good downpour after the heat, they wouldn't come in even if I were daft enough to try and make them.

Livery has just been to our yard and removed fly rugs,she did put her mare's rain sheet on though but other livery who is going up later is going to take that back off!
 
ffs what is the matter with people!!! They are HORSES they dont dissolve if they get wet and are actually designed to live outside. Jeeeesus. Its just a bit of rain.
