Have just been told that the South-East could be getting some snow next week-end!!! (What already!)

Have just had a peep at www.metcheck.com and the temperature could be getting as low as -10 degrees during the week! Have to wait and see what CountryFile forecast says tonight.

So folks be prepared for the extras.

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hate snow! Well I like snow, but my car doesn't. Snow+car = stuck

I know exactly what you mean asterid. Many times I've had to abandon my car and hike to the yard and back so decided enough with that and brought a Rav (4X4) which has been great in the snow.
A colleague at work has a rather old Fiat Panda 4x4 car but it gets him about more than others. So would definitely recommend looking for a small 4x4.

GM - Yup, I am considering a 4x4 for next year. Haven't got the funds this year :( Looks like snow is the way forward for the UK in winter, so my little sports car isn't a good option! lol

nooooooooooooooooo = but then again snow means school closed so i won't have to go to work (wasn't at this job last year when basingstoke was hit bad so possibly even if it is open I won't be able to get there as not got 4 x 4) which means stay home and play with the horses :)

o no! last year was awful, i eventually got home from work after a 4 hr drive, in tears! :( my little 206 is not great. Plus i didn't have my girly then to worry about! Good job i moved her closer! i want a 4x4! mind you I have never had snow on my birthday :D

tbh altho I have a 4x4 as I live in the Cairngorms (3 months of snow, -20 degrees type scenario :-)) you are just as well off with your 2WD if you swap over to winter tyres (which are optimal in any weather under about 7 degrees so not just for snow). They will give you massively more grip and mean you dont need to change car.

Although there is the extra costs of buying the wheels and tyres, the tyres will only be used one set at a time so in the long run wont cost more, just the rims.

The experts say that a 2WD with winter tyres can be better than a 4wd, also if its a small car you dont sink through the snow down to the ice layer as much.

I saw that on met check as well. Brrr hope not plus Denman due to run at Newbury on Saturday. OH has ordered winter tyres for his 4 x 4 which won't come til December as they are not in stock (go figure that one!)

snow problem!!! get winter tyres and upset the 4x4 s, seriously think how putting studs in shoes makes a difference, and in the snowy countrys they just have winter tyres and drive normal cars all year round....

:D No option really, winter happens, snow happens (not to us here yet though) you just get on with it.

Take Care everyone.
