Slight moan here......

I am sick of this blimmin weather! The grass is barely growing, our fields are like mud pies, the horses would rather stay in the stable (which I may let them stay in today...but then I feel mean as I like them to go and canter around) Its horrid, its so wet and windy. I feel like I'm in the wizard of oz, and any minute the house and stables will be whisked off in the wind to another land...ha ha hopefully a sunny warm land!

Does anyone else hate leaving the horses in all day?
 
Mine are staying in today, I would have trouble getting my welsh pony out anyway, she hates this weather. My new horse may think that she wants to go out, but I know that she will want to come back in again straight away! I prefer to know that they are safe rather than galloping around saturated paddocks and possible doing themselves an injury.
It's more like November out there, very windy here.
 
It's going to be a dry night here in Cambs so mine are in during this wet day and out at night -simply because I want to protect the fields! The wet does seem to make everything colder though, my neck aches when it's damp.
 
It's a tough call. I've left mine in for the moment, think i'll wait & see if it improves enough for them to have a couple of hours out later.

Like you, i'm totally fed up with this weather, spent all night lying awake worrying about stable roof blowing off :-( when's it going to end?

Yep, ours are staying in for the first time in over five years! If it was just the rain or just the wind they would go out, but turning out and bringing in in both, is just not worth the risk. Plus they hate it anyway. There is only one owner who will not be happy as her horse is a box walker, but he's also the most dangerous to handle and the one most likely to cause injury to himself or others in this weather.
 
I have put my lad out as he hates being inside. I will go round in a minute and give him a load of hay in his field stable to encourage him to stand in for a while, eat and shelter. He will be cold out there in this weather but won't stand in his field shelter for love or money.
 
Exact opposite for me. Mine was out last night, went up this morning to bring him in for a bit of a break from the wind, some hay etc and he wouldn't let me catch him! He is warm and dry so he is staying out!
 
It's really windy and very wet here (in colchester essex). Fields are waterlooged, one of the fields my boy has access to is flooded! resembles a lake, and it's getting worse all the time!

So have left him in today, nice warm rug, plenty of hay and he's happy :) May (just maybe) turn out this afternoon for an hour weather depending, although a lot of horses only went out for an hour or so before coming in again.
 
Mine are all out, no choice as they live out 24/7 the year round!

No rugs, they get colder with rain sheets than their own skin....IF the temperature was about freezing, then yes, lightweight rugs, but the temp here is reading 8 degrees.

They have substantial shelter from the hedges where they are at the bottom of the field, keeps the worse wind off them, and they have plenty of grass to keep feeding the internal boiler that runs the central heating.

This is due to blow over by early evening, it's only for a day, and it's forecast 17 degrees here tomorrow! I think they can stand it....
 
Mine are out as my shelter has no door so can't shut them in! They came over for breakfast and munched some hay for a bit while I was stood with them but just went off again to graze :) they both have rugs on and are dry underneath just wet round the edges :)
Anyway my mare is so ridiculous she stands in the shelter when I'm there but the minute the rain comes on the roof she runs back out and goes under the trees instead ...what a baby :)
 
Brought my two in last night for the first time in ages and have left them in today. My paddock is under water, no grass just mud so nothing to eat except hay and they can eat that in their stables! Even the one that doesn't really like being stabled didn't want to go out this morning so it must be bad! Will leave them in again tonight and hopefully they can go out tomorrow. It's wet and windy here and so bleeding cold it feels like the middle of winter!
 
Mine are out with rugs but being next to the river Avon have made evacuation plans for later if needed as the river is on the rise.
 
Non stop in Maidstone for almost two days,the rivers burst its banks for the second time in one week,and yet southern water are still saying the reservoirs are low and rain is not getting into the aquifers.As the river is flooding i can only conclude the ground is too saturated to absorb any more rain.I did put the horses out,and their heads are down eating.Will get them in earlier though as my old mare hates too much rain.
 
Mine refused to come in! Rugged him up, plenty of grass and had a small feed... He was cold but should warm up now, knows what he wants! Despite have a cosy warm stable with a huge bed ;)
 
Mine went out for an hour whilst I mucked out this morning but are back in again now. Nitty would stay out in this all day but BH would sulk and my field would be utterly trashed!

Mind you Nitty's box is totally flooded so really she may as well be out poor sould :eek: :(

Meant to brighten up tomorrow I think:)
 
I hate leaving them in too, but the weather us horrible, the fields are drenched.
I rode one and walked out the old boy, we got soaked, they were glad to get back on their stables and dry off and eat hay!
 
mine are in as the fields are getting trashed - or should I say the lakes? :confused: :mad:

I can't keep them in indefinitely but the state of my field is truly terrifying. I've never known it like this down here :( It's like the end of the world...
 
All stayed in today which wis hugely unusual for our yard. Even us die hard ride regardless gave up today. Not only has the rain not let up which has made going everywhere really sticky, but the winds have been awful..not risking something coming down nearby when out Even my all weather staffies, nicely rugged up refused to get out of the car today. That HAS to be a first!!!
 
I managed to exercise the TB this morning when it was just windy and not raining and then turned them out. We've actually had reasonable weather really for once (south Cumbria)but it's now blowing a hooley and tipping it down with rain. A friend from the yard texted me about 12.30 to say that mine were standing at the gate so she would bring them in. I like mine to be out as much as possible but I dont' see the point in forcing them to be out when they're clearly saying they want to come in, and they had about four hours out, so better than nothing. They're now nicely tucked up in bed munching.
 
Mines out 24/7 still. He has a big shelter with a bed that he will use if he wants to and when I tried to catch him he was playing silly games so is obviously quite happy out there with his rug on. The field is holding up well but theres a few skid marks :rolleyes: and the massive drainage ditches on 3 sides are filling up but havnt reached the fence yet which is half way down to them. If it continues to be bad I will put some hay in the shelter to encourage him in.

I feel worse for the gypsy horses in the flood field next door as most of that will be under water as its a bog for most of the year.
 
Mine went out this morning on the road chippings area around the yard with haynets. Despite it being awful they can get shelter from most directions as the yard is a U shape. I've just brought them in after 5hrs, and they seem more upset to be in with the wind rattling the roof - have had to shut the top doors too.

My dad has seen a forecast for a mini heatwave tomorrow, with these storms headed off to the med. Hope so, I'm flying tomorrow, and it will be pretty damn bumpy if this carries on!

Feeling sorry for the two horses up the road that live out without much shelter.
 
...and now I have to eat my words! :D

The wind has changed direction from first thing this morning when everyone was happy, but went again about an hour ago, and everyone was looking sorry for themselves..the wind had changed to an easterly direction and was driving the rain right over the large hedge...

A good feed later, and thin rugs (with under rugs to mop up the wet) everyone was looking a little bit happier...
