Has anyone else got one of these turnouts? It's been a long time since I got a new rug for either of my two and I was really surprised by how heavy it was. Is this just normal for turnouts nowadays? I think it seems to be around the neck where the neck cover attaches that is particularly heavy. The rug I have ordered is too big for my mare, so I need to decide whether to return it and get the same rug in a smaller size, or see if some of the other WB rugs are a bit lighter.

I've got a light medium turnout and yes it is quite heavy compared to my shires rugs but the denier is thicker and I think all the metal fasteners are a better quality so I think it adds weight to the rug in that way, I don't have the neck cover for it though so can't comment on that.

It is a lovely quality rug though and fits Louis lovely and all my shires and Derby house liners attch to it fine.

Thanks guys, good to know I wasn't imagining it! I guess the Comfitec Plus probably isn't any lighter. I wouldn't mind, but I bought it for a very nearly 30 year old, so it felt a bit mean putting something so heavy on her!

I have a very old version of it that did me proud for 10 years and have now brought a new one. It is heavy but lighter than the 10 year old one but I love it and ans very pleased with it. I use it with amigo liners as I already had them. They can clip on at the back but sadly don't attach at the front so although safe and won't move have to be careful chucking them on ?

Is that heavy as well asmp? I got the 100g so that I could use liners and she did look very happy when I packaged her all up in her new liner and new rug, and looked a bit miffed when I decided it was too big and took it all off again! I did really like the rug, I'm just a bit unhappy about how heavy it was around the neck. I wore it round the house myself to see how it felt "on" and I have to say I didn't notice it that much, so I assume once on it probably doesn't feel like anything to her - it's just such a noticeable difference from her much loved and very ancient Weatherbeeta.

I bought this one for mine to replace an old 200g rug but it’s far too warm (Didnt think the extra 20g would make that much difference). It may come out next week when the temperature really drops but it’s too warm for most days. (Had to buy another 200g in a different make)

I have this too and really rate it. I've never needed at HW rug so use this when it's really awful weather only (my other MWs are all 200gm). I took off the fleece attachments because I can’t understand how they wouldn't get soaked? I love everything else about the rug.

I have this too, and the heavy version of it. I use them a lot. They are heavy, but don't get any heavier after rain, the water beads on the outer fabric and runs off. I'd recommend them, mine look as good as new and they seem really comfortable for the horse, with the wither relief padding. Never had any issues with rubbing or the rug slipping. The horse they belong to is a delicate little flower, and has the liners for them too. She's in the medium with a 100g liner tonight, and was wearing in minus liner all day. The only fleece attachments are on the leg straps, which I never use anyway, and the top of the neck cover. The water sort of sits on top of the fleece rather than being absorbed by it.

Don’t recall it being heavy but haven’t used it for a while! It did fit nicely though.

I thought I would update this in case it is useful to anyone! I have had my Comfitec Ultra for a few weeks now and very happy with the overall quality - it's a beautiful rug! I do think it's a bit heavier than it needs to be over the withers and around the neck fastenings, which is a downside with a finely built elderly horse. However, I was tempted by the Weatherbeeta Boxing Day sale and decided to gamble on a 220g Comfitec Plus (my Ultra is 100g). Weirdly, I find this is much lighter and doesn't have that odd heaviness around the neck/ withers. I'm also extremely pleased with the overall quality, and would highly recommend.

I have one of these (100g version) and this rug drives me crazy.

When it's soaked full of Scottish rain it weighs a ton and never dries. The worst bit though.. the bottom hem rolls up and does not lie flat. I can't get it to go straight at all. It is the most bizarre problem. And his upper legs all wet.

And it takes forever to dry . On or off the horse it doesn't matter it's wet for days. Everyone at the yard swooned over it and the fancy buckles but it is a major disappointment. It was literally the only rug I've splashed out on because of the 100g utility and it's a nightmare.

I have another 1200 denier Weatherbeeta that's a lot less luxurious I bought as a spare used on Ebay that I end using most of the time.

Positive aspect: the massive reflective panels make it easy to find horse in the dark. More rug manufacturers should implement this. It also works well with the Weatherbeeta liners. But they are made for one another, so it should.
