Does anyone have any tips for protecting from the rain etc? Someone said something about a 5l drinks bottle (??) & putting it over the top? Need to protect the battery too.....

Our energiser and battery have been out in the elements in the Pennines for years and are still working fine.

How about putting an upturned dustbin over them with a hole through for the wire?

My OH got a plastic food storage box (sandwich box type) and made a hole for cables to go through for my energiser, then put lid back on. Keeps the rain out but easily accessible. I use an old bucket to cover my battery.

I splashed out and bought a security box, weatherproof galvanised metal that houses the energiser and battery AND has the added bonus of being LIVE when the energiser is switched on!!! It is attached to the ground on a 3' metal spike, so hopefully oppertunistic theiveing scumbags will keep their hands off!!

I bought a waterproof box from B&Q for this exact purpose 3 weeks ago. It seems to be working well so far and it fits the energiser and the battery easily. I did drill two holes on the side for the earth and live wires. I use this for the strip grazing energiser. The main energiser is sitting in a galvanised and weatherproof metal box from rutland fencing.

Sounds like we have the same security box. :D I also concreted an anchor thingie into the ground and then chained the box to the anchor.

I have one of those cupboards that houses electric switches for my mains ones. It has a locking front door and is bolted over the box. For my battery one I have a bigger electrical box , with a door, it opens and inside I have the electric box inside a postbox. You can accesses battery and switch and that's all. It was all screwed to the fence. Therefore it was both dry and secure, although it did become a havan for wildlife of the eight legged kind!!!

Could you post some pictures of these things please?

I use beer crates..

Beer crate on ground, spike that the energiser sits on is hammered down through one of the bottle spaces (secures everthing a bit) energiser sits on stake resting on the bottle dividers, battery sits next to that also on bottle dividers then a plastic storage box fits exactly on top of the crate to waterproof everything and the crate keeps everything off the ground. Once the stake is pulled up the whole thing can be moved by lifting the crate

I put an upturned dustbin over mine. It also helps keep it hidden from passers by who might be tempted to help themselves. If it's windy I put a concrete block on top.

surely they are waterproof as they are designed to be used outside, never had problem with one getting wet :/ I have covered mine for extra security when it is visible from the road but thats it.

I once left one in a box without a lid and was too lazy to drill a hole at the bottom. The box flooded.... :(

I have left small and cheap ones outside hanging on a stake and they survive in the rain, but I would not leave my £280 energiser hanging outside on a stake. :)
