Weaving - help!

The last two evenings Blue (2yo Fell) has been standing at the gate when Ellie has her tea elsewhere weaving. He hasn't done this before and I am worried it will fast become a habit.

Any advice on how to prevent him weaving at mealtimes? He doesn't get any feed as he lives on fresh air. He will be getting a new field companion this weekend who also doesn't have any hard feed do you think this will help?

Don't want my little (currently) vice free and lovely boy getting messed up

Give him a token feed of some damped chaff. You know why he does it, so jus deal with the cause. Nip this in the bud quickly before the habit becomes established.
Oh, I should have said, does he do this when she is taken out at other times of the day? If so the companion will be the answer. Meanwhile you could maybe bring him in with Ellie? I know people will say he just has to get over it, but if he's weaving then it's not going to happen. The behaviour releases endorphins into his system, and that can get sort of addictive.
Lots of stuff you can do very gradually to deal with separation anxiety, if you have the time.
 
Maybe not, because if he's a good doer carrots contain a lot of sugar. (Try cooking them forgetting to put the water in as I did and they caramelis, quite tasty!). Also, if he's feeling a bit excitable with the changes going on, carrots fizz some horses up, again because of the high sugar content.
 
its a stressy thing! and stereotypic behaviour one of his parents possibly did it, tho as a turned out 2 year old it is surprising. cant you guve him a wedge of hay bfore you take other one out?
