Weaving & Windsucking

Theyre not catching at all. They are both man made problems due to inappropriate management, the horse consequently expresses these behaviours as a result. Weaving- frustration due to prevention of movement. Windsucking- usually due to starchy diet, lack of fibre, abrupt weaning and or ulcers.

Poor horse doing both- he must be very unhappy. But unless you manage your horse in such a way as to provoke the behaviours he wont do them

That's what I wanted to hear!! He goes out for at least 2 hours at the mo as he's just come off 2 weeks box rest! He does have ulcers (had him scoped a few weeks ago) but the vet says they as long as he keeps eating and he is they shouldn't get worse!

Even if they dont get worse they are still there and it is unlikely the windsucking will reduce until the ulcers have improved. Hopefully the vet has suggested ad lib hay and no cereals in the hard feed- just fibre as thats the best diet to help.

Likewise, the weaving wont improve with minimal turnout but hopefully the horse wll feel better when he is able to go out more. Some horses will always do it when brought in though
