Hoping the collective mind of HHO will strike again! You guys are my go to for any problems 😂

I'm going to a traditional Indian Wedding at the beginning of Sept, I don't know the bride, but do know the groom! The invite is traditional Indian dress but I have no idea, and nobody to ask?! Really don't want to look like a plonker and REALLY REALLY don't want to offend anyone. My other option would be a Midi/Maxi dress so if you have any recommendations for these please let me know, ideally under £200?

I don't have much advice but I will say that there are often lots of fabulous Indian outfits on eBay, if you are open to secondhand items. I have been looking at secondhand wedding dresses on there and often stumble over Indian wedding guest outfits on there (and outfits for brides too of course). Just thought I'd mention it as you might be able to get some ideas on there at least.

When I attended one a few years ago I was reliably informed that either lehenga or saree are fine and just avoid red (as is the bridal colour) and black (a lack of colour is not the done thing).

I bought off ebay and really enjoyed picking something that I would never usually get an opportunity to wear

As well as the colourful clothes the makeup worn by a lot of the women at the one I went to was incredible - so vibrant and colourful but yet effortlessly tasteful. It was a really great celebration in every way. Hope you enjoy!

A lot of Indian brides nowadays also wear pink, so I'd avoid anything in the red/pink spectrum. What a great opportunity though! I love all the opulent fabrics in traditional Indian outfits.

My mum used to be invited to a lot of Indian weddings when she worked in Southall - she used to wear a salwar kameez as she wasn’t keen on having a bare midriff, but the lehengas are beautiful if you’re confident. Saris are tricky to get right if you’re not used to them. Whatever you wear you’ll want to be comfortable in it - Indian weddings tend to be marathons not sprints!
