Who's done it?

Horse (D) likes to lick everything (he's also a Welsh Cob and slightly bargey, plus not particularly patient with people he doesn't know) so I'm not sure having him at our wedding is the best idea despite what my fiance says. D could do a receiving line for us with everybody giving him a carrot - I think he'd like that!

I love the idea of teaching D to drive but at 24yo already (and we won't be getting married for a year or two) I worry that it'd be too much for him plus I don't have the facilities nor the equipment to teach him.

I think my plan is to get dressed up a second time and have some photos taken with him after the event. :)

I was initially planning to take my Welsh x to my wedding, but was worried about both how he'd cope with all the people, and also the possibility of being slobbered all over before we'd had any other photos! In the end we went back with the photographer 2 days later and got some stunning shots with him. It meant we could take our time to get the pictures we wanted and I wasn't worried about the fact my dress was distinctly horsey by the end. My hair and make-up weren't quite as lovely as on the day, but I think it was the best compromise for me. If you're sure he'll cope with the atmosphere and you are willing to risk a bit of dirt, then having him there on the day would be lovely though!!!

Didn't have mine at my wedding, I'd have got too worried about him and maybe everything getting trashed, how he would get there, get back, who would look after him and so on. We got married last year and the plan has always been to do a photo shoot with me in my dress with him, but I've never got around to it!

I had mine there - but it was a surprise organised by a couple of girls from my yard. It was totally brilliant to see him there. He was a general diva, was the centre of attention and loved a taste of champagne. He was incredibly well behaved. It wasn't about getting photos but more that it was surprisingly meaningful to have him there, even though he didn't have a clue what was going on. He just thought we had thrown him a party.

It was 9 years ago now and still one of my favourite things he has done for me.

Only thing I would say is make sure someone else is in charge of the horse so you can spend some time with him but pay attention elsewhere - and they can take him home when the time is right.

I ride one of my two to our wedding. My wife drove in the car. A friend was my groom and kept him amused until it was photo time. I rode him home and she drove home.

I'm going to marry my horse specifically so I can ride her wearing a big dress 💞

It would depend on the horse's temperament. Years ago we arranged to have my friends show cob at her wedding. She didn't know and was absolutely over the moon when he turned up. We washed him and prepared him and knew he would behave impeccably so it wasn't too big a deal.

Certainly wouldn't want to have to be worrying about him or having any responsibility for sorting him out.

Another friend is learning to ride side saddle and going to arrive on her own horse (also learning!).

I had professional horse and carriage and I loved every minute going down the road with my father being the amazing sight that it was.

Yep, I did it. :)

I arranged for him to be taken to the venue so I could have some pics taken with him before and after. He was no trouble at all. I did ask whether it would be ok beforehand.

I have some lovely shots of him and I etc....hubby jokes that I should have married him instead!!! I've had him since a yearling so I knew he'd be quiet. I got on him in my dress too. There's still a hoof grease stain on it.

I remember my sister ringing me on the morning of the wedding asking what I was up to. I don't think washing the pony was the answer she was expecting!!!!!:D

I took sasha to my friends wedding, my friend wanted to get on her in her dress but sash wasn't happy with the rustling dress, so she just had pictures done with her

Lovely photo :-)

I would have loved to have had Mads at my wedding but she's quite nervy with people she doesn't know and has zero ability to stand still plus she's scared of cameras. Shame because she's very pretty and we have a great bond. She likes Mr Mouse too despite him being quite apprehensive of her.

Stunning photo

I had both of mine at our wedding. My gelding (an appaloosa) is very hot headed, but he coped with it all fine provided that he stayed with my mare. We had photos with them away from the guests (planned in advance as we weren't sure how he wold react), and then, because he was fine, guests that wanted to came out to see them just before they were taken back to the yard. They are still my favourite photos. If I knew how to add photos, I would!

Go for it, but have a reliable friend on stand-by to take him away if he isn't enjoying it.

Edited to ad, make sure your photographer is ok with horses and knows how to photograph them! Mine was both a wedding photographer and equine portrait photographer - so I got excellent photos!

I lent my horse out to a bride that had been let down last minute by the owners of her loan horse. She had planned everything about the wedding to arrive on horseback and they back out last minute.

Even thought it wasn't my own wedding it was still incredibly special and I was so, so proud of my incredible ex racer who was an absolute superstar and put up with allsorts!

I love all of you taking your horses to weddings, a long time ago ( in a galaxy far far away) I didn't have a horse then but the horse I regulary rode at the riding school had shoes and my best friend asked for one of those shoes and decorated it for me, by the time she got married I had a horse so used one of hers to replay the favour and now I'm really sad, but my we bought my daughter a pony (she's 8) and I have saved the first set of shoes from him so that she can carry one of his shoes if she gets married.

Gorgeous photos. Am so tempted.

I think I am going to get long reining....

That is the sweetest idea! My lad doesn't wear shoes - maybe a hoof boot?!

I know of someone who rode from church to venue with new hubby on theirs. She was side saddle and had trained horse to go side saddle etc before. Pictures looked fab, esp as hubby was in military dress too.
