Wedges on shoes for check ligament issue

Check ligament desmitis, and horse lame off fore. Anyone had success with shoeing with wedges to take the pressure off?

No personal experience, as a passionate barefooter I do see wedging work, and that sometimes it's the only way, but I would ONLY want to wedge the way these guys do, not with traditional open heeled rim shoes, the latter can seriously crush heels (as can open heeled shoes generally)

My farrier was adamant the pony needed to stay barefoot for her check ligament recovery earlier this year. She was growing her own heels (so her hooves looked liked they'd got wedges) and he said that they would do that until the ligament started to stretch. Check ligaments are one of those that if they don't get sufficient movement can heal into a tight, constricted problem (that's my vet saying that) whereas with correct movement they can heal incredibly well.

We are gradually reducing the height of heels as the pony recovers thankfully.

Well it’s going to depend on the horse in question and their conformation, the injury nuisances. There is certainly merit in considering using wedges to change angles temporarily in specific circumstances but you really need to engage with experienced pros who can evaluate your situation to determine if it’s the right way forward

I think the Equine Documentalist / Yogi Sharp in the UK will also offer similar consultation and shoeing. They seem to both follow each other's work, I think.
