Wee patches on lawn!? Any secrets to stop it?

We have recently laid turf where previously we had just a concrete yard, having finally put the money and effort into the garden we would like to protect the lawn if we can.

Pig (JRT) is loving peeing on it but we are already getting patches. I have read about dog rocks but loads of people are saying they don't work....?

Ideas please :o
 
We trained H to pee on the gravel down the side of the house....

You can get neutralising sprays but you have to do it immediately.
 
Dog rocks worked great for me and wouldn't be without them now - they seem to work for some people and not others, but I reckon it'd be worth a go.
 
Works for me ...2 bitches and 1 dog. Also ( and this could be my over active imagination) my dogs are walked first thing so the first pee of the day is not on my lawn....not great for middle boy dog who is not a 5.30 sort of boy and would prefer to be under the covers till much later!
 
Maybe I'll give them a go then. I was just suspicious they might harm his Lordship! No chance I would be able to get him out of bed for a morning walk, at best he will come out for a wee and then zip straight back up the stairs and back into his bed. Weekends he rises with OH I about 9.30am. I am down the yard by 7.30 but they like to be a bit more sedate about things ;)
 
Tomatoes fed to the dog are supposed to help so we give ours a tin of sardines or fish of some sort in tomato sauce whichever is cheapest it does seem to work though. You would need to check what is safe for your dog and how much you need though as we have a big lab and she has a whole tin

We only seem to develop patches in the summer and last summer was SO wet up here I think her pee was constantly diluted. We make sure she has very frequent toilet breaks, so there are lots of little wees on the lawn rather than one super strong one!

Patches are easily fixed with some patch magic though, you can even get wee resistant stuff?
 
I thought it could be caused by a high protein diet. Might be worth checking he isn't on some super whizz bang food as he sounds a bit sedentary!
 
Thanks all! Turf only laid ten days ago so no mud patch yet :)

He is on the James Wellbeloved for little people but will check protein. Out on walks he is fairly wild and into everything but mornings he is a lazy toad!
 
Just be careful with dog rocks, they can upset the pH of your dogs urine predisposing to urolithiasis (bladder stones that can get lodged in the urethra).
