1. Wee: My mare is on medication that causes her to wee more, a few days of coming in during the day and her stable already stinks. It doesn’t drain particularly well but I won’t have a chance to remedy that this year. Is there anything I can use to absorb the smell? She’s currently on bedmax but I want to change as it biodegrades too slowly. I need something they wont eat and isn’t dusty.

2. Water troughs, does anything work to stop them going green or do I have to scrub it every few days?

Thanks

1. I use chopped rape straw. It is fairly absorbent and I can take the wee patch out every few days and then completely bottom the bed once a week. The top can then remain pretty undisturbed except for the full muck out day. I do it as a thick bed though, so the wee is well covered.

2. I scrub inside/stable buckets every day regardless. I scrub field containers every day when it is hot, every 2 or three when it isn't, such as in winter. They are checked and refilled every day and still scrubbed daily if they have muck in them.

Yes, you have to muck out properly every day, brush the floor thoroughly and leave bed up to air while your horse is turned out / being exercised. Bed down with the salvaged clean, and top up with fresh bedding. Every day.
Yes, you need to clean troughs and water buckets daily. That is where your animal is taking its essential fluids from - why would you not want to do this?

1 - Wee : I use Burlybed Lite which is miscanthus based and it works wonders. I pop down 6 bales to start a bed for an average sized stable and then take out the wet patch every two ish weeks, and pop a bag or two down to top up what I took out. If you would rather do this monthly, that is also an option - it just depends on if you want to muck out every 2 weeks or every 4 weeks. It lasts a really long time too - Baggs my 20 year old is notoriously wet in his stable (he wees in only one place which is great on one hand but a pain for mucking out on the other aha!) and with a fresh bed, I've only taken out 1.5 bags over the last 5 weeks.

2 - Water troughs : I clean all my buckets daily, that is the only thing that keeps them nice, clean and free from green stuff

I do that every day, it’s volume of wee as she’s very wet due to medication.

To clarify, the water trough is the one in the field, stable trugs are done daily. Does everyone empty field troughs daily to clean?

Yep - I empty my troughs every day to scrub and refill with fresh water

Generally - yes, although if the horses were another field I would just clean thoroughly before they return. You’d be surprised at what else contaminates troughs in fields, or falls in and drowns!
If she’s on drugs prompting greater urination, it’s probably even more important that she always has lots of very fresh water, wherever she is.
Much deeper bed, and resign yourself to taking out more of it while re she’s on meds. Hope she makes good progress.
