A friend is wondering what's up with her pony. He has recently started bucking under saddle. The usual back, teeth and saddle checks have come out fine. Also for the last few weeks the pony wees under saddle within 10 minutes of being ridden which is unusual for this pony.

Friend phoned the vet and he said it is unlikely to be kidney problems. Pony can be sensitive to feed so I suggested where we have had lots of rain etc perhaps the grass flushing is having an impact. Eg sugar levels making him full of himself hence the buck and water level making him wee a lot - friend is not convinced!

Has anyone else come across this?

Take a pee sample as well if you can and get that tested. If it is an infection, for example, he could be in pain trying to wee and this may lead to the bucking.

Vet sounds a bit laid back about it to be honest, I would presure him for more tests to figure this out!

Get a wee sample. Does the pony have access to lots of dandylions? They are a diuretic

The bucking could be because he needs a pee.

This is exactly what my pony did!!
We believe that the saddle is slipping and pressing on a nerve or something encouraging to pee.
Saddle check!!
Also pee sample to rule that out!

Low grade belly ache can cause a horse to adopt the peeing stance time and time again. "Ouch" signals can get tangled up so the horse thinks it needs a pee when what it really needs is Coligone or similar. My friend's ned used to do this when he changed fields onto better grazing.
