Hello all

Something strange has been going on, this big bright shiny thing has been spotted in the sky? I’m not sure whether I should be concerned or not…

Bit late this week, oops.

Lunged both boys on Sunday, didn’t have any dramas so will get back in the saddle this evening on one if not both 😃 weather looking fairly promising over next few days, too!

No concrete plans yet but will aim to ride both tomorrow, maybe some groundwork Friday and get them both out again doing something over the weekend - either in hand or ridden, tbc at this point.

Signed up for an xc & sj clinic at the end of May so need to get the fitness going!

Miss Moo had her flu and tet on Monday so is having a few days off just in case anyway. Maybe a little bit of groundwork tonight. Maybe an easy lesson on Thursday, the only day currently forecast for rain 🙃
 
Lesson Tuesday but a bit stiff through the left hip with some unexpected airs above the ground so will be doing some gentle stretching tonight and a gentle hack Thursday 🙄 im hoping she's just tweaked something twitting about in the mud with her pal. She's out to give me a heart attack this year. What with the ventipulmin sending her dotty I'm now trialing an aerohippus we've got up to 5 puffs before she loses patience just 19 to go then.
 
I groomed my horse today. First time in a month since we parted company. I am hoping to get back on by end of next week. In the meantime just slowly reconnecting.
Have a dsg champs on 11th April so have an aim. Entries close 6th April so will take it to the wire.
 
After Sunday's dressage success the daughter had a grumpy ride Tuesday evening when mare did nothing wrong but daughter's face suggested it was ALL DREADFUL. Yesterday mare had her first day out completely naked! And must have managed to be quite dignified about it because she wasn't all that muddy on returning to the stable! Tonight they'll do some flatwork I think and we're planning a trip to the gallops at the weekend to see what she does when she really extends and pushes that pace a bit more. There's a limit to what you can do down the long side of the arena (we have a 30x50 so it's a good space but not for opening up the canter on a 16.1!), and we're not using our grass hacking on the farm yet, waiting for it to dry a little.

Really trying to put all the pieces in place ready for our first BE at the end of this month but it's hard at this time of year because you can't truly train for everything when you're dealing with ground, and facilities not fully open. However, a good few days of dry weather is just the ticket, so fingers crossed we can do what we need to do.
 
I didnt hack, we went in the school and she was just as cute as last night. Canter is now the most fun thing so I was asking for trot instead so we didn't get carried away (and also the arena was very sloppy) and she's like "okay then do you want me to float along like I don't share more DNA with a goat than a warmblood?" I LOVE HER
 
Ok I FINALLY DID SOMETHING

Lunged Charmer & had a quick sit on Ace on Wednesday evening - Ace is probably sharper than Charmer, but Charmer is more chaotic when fresh, so that worked quite well. Just lots of walk on Ace, he was very sweet and well behaved.

I did intend on getting up early yesterday morning and riding before work, but I didn’t, and then the weather put me off last night. So here’s a pic of Queen Bee snoozing instead. She’s quite cute when she isn’t exercising her teeth.

I did manage to drag myself out of bed this morning though, so Ace was the target. Again, lots of walk work - leg yielding, serpentines, transitions, turn on the forehand - he’s a very long fella and really needs to develop more suppleness to actually get those hind legs engaged.

I finish work at 1pm today so I reckon I’ll brave having a sit on Big Unit then. I don’t actually expect any nonsense, he just likes to fling his legs about, and I’d rather be fully awake for that 😂
 
Same old same old for me. I took H for a jump yesterday, and met someone finishing their lesson who I used to compete against at Nov BE. She was on a beautiful competition type horse, and looked at H and asked, in surprise, "You're jumping???"

I replied, "Yes, I brought my sofa-bed out for a spin!" as H isn't the sort of horse I used to have and he is, indeed, reminiscent of a sofa bed!!!

We have made no further progress than last year because:

1. He can't be arsed.
2. I crushed my knee last year and still can't feel all of it!

I don't think we will be doing any different for a while yet, but he is a lovely, friendly, furry chap! By heck, he takes some effort to jump though! You have to be busy as a rider. Sometimes I do miss the kind of horse who brings their own energy to the party!!!

Quick hack this evening, super spooky but we were walking directly into the sun for the first 5 mins so I actually think she couldn't see a thing and was in fact being super brave 😂 stopped for a chat with a couple of walkers, got petted and called beautiful, stared at some fresh bouncy lambs for 5 mins to remind herself they do not (normally) eat horses, buckle end saunter home playing a game of "are you paying attention or am I diving for grass" which ended at a draw. Perfect little evening!
 
So daughter managed 3 schooling sessions this week, 1 where she thought EVERYTHING was SIMPLY DREADFUL (see post above), and 2 where she had the best horse in the world EVER and couldn't believe how lucky she was! And a nice quiet hack last night, so overall a good week for building up her work time.

Quick arena hire today at a BS venue 5 mins from home that have just put their SJ out for the season, and Kelsall gallops tomorrow. Hoping it stays dryish, was a bit indignant about how cold it was yesterday after such lovely mild weather earlier in the week.
