Happy Monday folks - how the heck are we almost halfway through January?

My boys seem to have accidentally had a very easy couple of weeks - between rubbish weather (either freezing cold or chucking it down) and DIY work in the stables, they’ve essentially had two weeks of loafing about.

No firm plans for this week yet… but thought it was worth posting anyway to a) feel inspired by the rest of you or b) get some solidarity from those who are similarly demotivated.

It’s actually a lovely day here but they’re all stuck in because the NIE (electricity company) are replacing some power lines which involves accessing our land, so I’ve had to take down a lot of fencing, and they are currently driving through one field to access another to complete their work. I appreciate it is essential, but it’s so frustrating to see decent grazing disappear under the tracks of a digger 🥲 since they’re stuck inside today, I’ll get them some turnout tonight so they’ll probably not do any work today.

How is everyone else’s week ahead looking?

I'm in a similar situation; Ambers had 8 days off due to a combination of bad weather and me having a cold. I'm now starting to look at the forecast and think about when I can get back on as we have a clinic on 31st so need to be up and running again for that .

Yep one here who must think he's been retired as he hasn't been out of his field or barn shelter for 11 days mainly due to the weather and me also returning back to employment after a month off :(

This week isn't looking a whole lot better tbh with work, but I really need to pull my finger out as over the weekend I seem to have been persuaded to enter Man v Horse as a rider alongside 2 running pals, which isn't until June thankfully, but this morning I have entered a 22km pleasure ride on 22nd Feb. So loose plan is:

Today - nothing due to long working day
Tuesday - as above
Wednesday - need to get out for a hilly 2 hr hack at walk pace only again, solo.
Thursday - Short 1 hr hack due to time constraints
Friday - farrier coming pm
Saturday - 2 hr hilly hack with friend
Sunday - 2 hr hilly hack with daughter riding and me on friends endurance pony.

Yeah... I just checked my diary and I haven't sat in a saddle since the 31st 😂 may be digging out the longer girth again

THE PLAN
Monday: Do Ur Best (I'm in the office and struggling)
Tuesday: Short school - keep it v positive as she was sticky and annoyed and not enjoying it pre-festive break
Wednesday: Same again OR change tack and do something at liberty if she is still sticky schooling
Thursday: Lesson
Friday: depends on Lesson!!

Im working from home this week untik friday so might manage a few long lunch rides. Hacked today and got a bit damp bit was so proud of her as we lead a bigger group than usual (4😅) through the woods where they all get a bit giddy and she was perfect sensibly negotiating fallen trees and narrow gaps and being a calming influence.
Lesson wednesday weather permitting.

3 days off last week due to snow and frozen arena, had to reschedule my lesson twice and trainer is now on holiday for a week.

Did manage to lunge Thurs/Fri last week, did a very short schooling session on Saturday that I bailed on because I couldn’t feel my hands, feet or legs 🙈 🥶 Then a hack on Sunday as weather was a bit more ‘normal’.

Tonight we did 20 mins on the lunge in Equicore bands then I did a quick 20 mins ridden flatwork and finished up with some raised walk poles.

Tues - likely to be a day off as I’m in the office and don’t generally school 2 days running as K hates me for it and will be very uncooperative!
Wed - water treadmill in the evening
Thurs - flatwork or lunge depending what time I get back from work
Fri - likely to be a D/O as I’m working and then have evening plans with OH

Saturday I’m out all day with OH so won’t get to ride.
Sunday will be a quick hack in the morning as we have a christening at midday.

So a bit of a ‘do what we can’ week but trying to crack on where I can!

Snows gone! Woo hoo.

Rode yesterday, back to usual routine from now on. Show Sunday was cancelled, one next Sunday postponed as couldn't get ridden. Nothing planned until Feb.

Hmmm my last time my bum was in the saddle was mounting work in the yard for Madame, weather and life has got in the way so today a long lunch break for us to just go for a plod around the school. Then thursday we have the dentist so will again try the getting on in the yard and trying to see if we can get to the school from the yard on a solo mission. Then hacks at the weekend. I see it that January is a ease yourself back into normality month

Christ, are we still in January? It feels much longer than 14 days 🙈 Only another 147 days of Jan to go!

So far:

Monday: Lunging
Tuesday: 45 minute brisk hack
Today: 20 minutes in-hand polework as the school was too frozen & icy for anything else.

I can't wait for warm summer mornings again ....

Tuesday: Short school - keep it v positive as she was sticky and annoyed and not enjoying it pre-festive break
Rode for 15 mins feeling like a well shaken can of coke, told her she was the best girl in the whole world for holding it together, then took her saddle off and she bombed round the arena bucking, rearing and doing her trademark sliding stops like she was at the rodeo. She is very good to me.
