Weekday Plans - w/c 1st December

Sorry to interrupt your plans, but you gave me a proper blast from the past when you mentioned Lusks! I worked there when I was 18 (a very long time ago!) It wasn't a competition centre then, apart from the eventing held there at the end of the season. I also worked in London for Harold's brother for most of my teenage years. It's nice to know it's still going.

Aw wow! Yes, still going and hold regular competitions- I don’t think EI has run there for a few years now, but they do all sorts. Its a nice spot. I’m not sure if the riding school is still going, I think it possibly is but not 100% sure.
Nice to hear of another NI connection too, are you from here originally or were you just here for work?

I was just there for work, I started off working for Brian (Harold's brother) in London, and when I was 18 and left school I went to NI to work for Harold. When I was there we just had the one end of season event, and Harold ran a transport company sending horses all over Europe, and he had dealing horses of all ages that we rode and produced, no riding school and no competitions.

Riding school still going! Completely separate business from the livery and comp venue tho.

Lusk family still also run the transport business and semi-separate youngstock livery, but I don't think they produce anymore.

Very cool! As smolmaus says, transport business is still going. Always nice to hear some of the stories of local places, I’m a history nerd for all kinds of history 🤣
I am very lucky to have Lusks around the corner, Danescroft (you’d maybe know it too from your time here?) is only down the road as well plus a few other newer places. We are lucky in NI (at least in Down, Armagh & Antrim) to have so many good venues close by.

This week went v.sideways as came down with a heavy cold (my 4th (!) of the winter season so far)

So did nothing Wednesday-Friday :( Not ideal as he A. Has reversed EMS so needs to be kept busy and B. Is a much nicer character and I get less complaints about his field behaviour for being kept busy 🤣🙈

But what can you do?

I managed a 45 minute schooling session today before the need to breathe properly & not coughing up a lung became too much 🤣
