Weekday Plans - w/c 5th Jan

Mainly lugging containers of hot water to the yard and being shouted at by the resident robin!!

Memories popped up on FB from the past 2 years of flooded fields so perhaps I should be grateful for the mini ice age

No plans here, we are fully snowed in but I'm grateful everything is getting out in the field!

I have a lesson booked for Friday and hopeful we will be thawed out a bit by Wednesday so I can get back on board. Water treadmill Wednesday eve but will depend what the roads are like by then, currently they are lethal as covered in compact snow and ice so like an ice-rink.

My Covercoat blades should arrive tomorrow, so final clip for the show boys on Friday! Then it's cracking on with getting fit for their first show in March! I don't have an arena so plenty of hacking and arena hires

Happy New Year all! Currently no plans as we are blanketed under snow with -3 temps, and the forecast isn't set to rise above zero for more than a couple of hours until Friday. I'm also currently carless, having had to abandon it last night in a snow drift so top priority is getting the car retrieved at some point. Thankfully the ponies are up at a friends house (but she's away with work!) so her poor hubby is feeding, skipping yard out and smashing water regularly. My own teen daughter has headed up there today, doing the last steep half mile on foot to give him a hand.
Hoping it'll thaw enough by the weekend to get out for a hack?

Pony has been stuck in for 3 full days now, so when it eventually thaws it will be lots of stretching and in hand walks for a bit I think. I'm currently just grateful I'm one of only 2 people not to have landed on their bum just crossing the yard. Nobody say "grit" to me or I shall scream.

Our robin is getting very cheeky these days too! Sadie has been leaving him dinner scraps so he is looking plump and his joints and ligaments will be in tip top shape.

Didn't have our lesson this week again, but did a bit of liberty stuff, intending for mostly walk poles and nice halts but after rolling 3 times she suggested canter transitions instead and made up a mini course for herself with ground poles and a crosspole 😂 her course building needs work, the lines were awful but can't knock the enthusiasm! I did check it wasn't a fluke, asked for a trot facing away from both and she took herself round the same 2 again. She's so flipping cute!

Survived but not thrived, is how I'd sum it up 🤣 The weather has been vile - we've had snow, sleet, sheet ice, high winds and two days of rain which will freeze again tonight so we'll be back to sub zero temperatures and sheet ice.

I'm usually a pretty motivated person but I'm struggling this week for much positive, except the week is over!

Anyways, we've managed the grand total of two lunge sessions and 1 in hand polework session.

Roll on the Summer ... 🙏

So far, we've done some schooling with poles twice, schooling without poles once, and one session of interval training on the longe. It's been cold and icy, and snowed today, so we probably won't get a hack in this week. But will probably longe again tomorrow in the small indoor school, and see what the weather is like on Sunday, if the outdoor school is better. Plan "Yes-round-is-a-shape, but-get-the-BM-into-a-shape-that's-less-round" continues apace. I'm aware that that's not a very snappy name for the Plan, but I like it.

I'm in the survived not thrived camp too. Plus in need of ear muffs because my ears were freezing riding earlier.

After de-icing my neighbour's drive way yesterday I hacked the hooligan the mile out and mile back along the path through the woods (which hadn't frozen). A week off = acrobatics. Far too slippery for a canter so he threw shapes instead.

Horrible in the wind this afternoon but we melted last night so just 45 mins around field margins on the microcob - she felt a bit stiff but I think that's 10 days off for her.

Schooled the hooligan in the field. Fair to say we had the forward button! Nothing nasty but I don't get Big Cob Trot schooling very often 😏 Big circles, big loops in a very wet field

Frozen again tomorrow I think.☹️

Yeah everything freezing here again too. Hoping it defrosts enough for a hack by tomorrow afternoon, but if not can probably manage walkies. Her wee trainers (flexboots) do pretty well when it's slippy!

My back is playing up tbh so that might be a bit optimistic. My turn to be lame!!!!
