Weekend plans :D

I had a lesson Friday afternoon which went quite well (instructor rode him first and he was much less tense this time then the time before, but I have changed his bit and we both thing he prefers it as he was much more forward (for him!) and less worried. He was more relaxed when I got on which kind of made me feel quite nice (instructor said he definitely trusts me). we did a lot of work in trot, getting him forward, changing the rein down the centre line and going large so that he could really use himself. He was such a good boy. We had a chat and I'm going to see how we go over summer and if things still aren't particularly great (its all me, not him) then I will look to sell him around September time. Saturday we did some in hand stuff just to get him listening.

Sunday I long reined him in the school and then we went up the driveway and back and he was a bit nervy but listened and was happy to get back to his sweeties!

Thank you. I feel better having a plan, and I am setting us some mini goals to try and hit weekly and monthly with the ultimate goal being hacking solo with walk trot and canter thrown in :)
I think most of us can relate to that, having those little goals along the way helps you to notice when you are making progress, which is so important when things feel a bit difficult.

Definitely a more positive post! I think it also takes longer than most of us realise to form a bond with a new horse, especially when they are 'replacing' a previous one as our main riding horse. I know it was a good six months at least with Cassie before I felt a true bond, before then I liked her and enjoyed what we doing, but I didn't feel an attachment to her because of all the heartache I had been through with Cam. You are still in the early days with J and with Christmas and NY in the middle of it, you really haven't had long together. Onwards!! xx

Definitely this. It took me 1 year before I felt like Daisy and I had properly bonded. It was the oddest feeling. I do like J very much, he is very sweet but yes I think we need to have some time to develop and see what happens xx

I took Fionn out on Saturday and got 63.9% in BE 91. Gale force winds meant he was rather jolly, but I was pleased.

Hoping for high 60's next time with better weather.

Hacked in the sunshine on Sunday, and suffering Storm Brendan today...

Poor you AE ?

Well done RO, BR2, MP and all the others out and about competing and schooling over the weekend.

Well I didnt get to ride Darcy for 3 days after the show because the flipping storm came and I dont have a death wish ? so boxed over to ride indoors at my trainers yard today. Back on track again ? he's only really learned about half halts in the last fortnight so we did some of that until I could ride forward properly, and then a bit of canter, really trying to keep.him around my inside leg (difficult ?)
Target for the next show is to be able to sit up in canter ?20200115_160942_compress58.jpg so we've got 10 days to practice riding like a grown up :p

Exciting weekend coming up for us. Adorable Alice is being measured and hopefully will measure in for small hunter classes. Aiming for an early show to gauge how common she is compared to the other horses !

Fingers crossed for you AA.....

Any tips?? We are taking Daisy doodles and Fionn on Sun 26th.....
