Almost there again! Been a much better week weather-wise so hopefully lots of eventing going on as well as everything else.

Busy weekend for me. Saturday I'm hoping to go xc schooling, then on Sunday I'm doing combined training at Coombelands. Anyone else doing that? I'll probably be on my own, although hoping to persuade Mr JB to come with me.

Line up and share your exciting plans :)

I'm taking Daemon for a dressage lesson. This is going to be entertaining in the extreme :D

Other than that, just hacking. I was going to compete him on Thursday but I had an entry fail, which is just as well as the Disco has blown another EGR valve and spent the morning in the garage. I also turned down an invite XC schooling at Ely as we have people coming to look at the house tomorrow and Saturday. So lots of cleaning and boring stuff in between hacking and Deranged Daemonic Dressage Debacles...

I've been looking forward to the demonic dressage lesson for weeks JFTD.

I'm doing naff all exciting on account of more saddle issues than I care to think about. Supposed to be in training for a pairs hunter trial in 2 weeks but it's not looking good. Going to the beach tomorrow in the bareback pad again.

I'm still writing it up, JB. I'm struggling to make it interesting and not too sterile. I also have a massive headache after walking into a bloody door earlier so I'm feeling less than stellar about this :p

FW, the saddle business is ridiculous. Grrrr.

I've missed the saddle saga FW, but bareback pad riding on the beach sounds immense fun.
Sprout at least you have summer/winter fields, some of us liveries have one field year round :)
Look forward to the non sterile report JFTD.

Just taking FLF out in the box on Saturday to meet with a good friend to hack out. Should be interesting as last 2 times out she was a witch to load to come home, and I've not done any practice since :rolleyes3:
Think i better pull the box forwards tomorrow and have a session.
Sunday i have brother and his wife bringing their big dogs to the yard after i have ridden, so poppy dog can meet her new uncles. ..

No comp plans tho :)

We're out somewhere fun Saturday, either beach or farm ride not decided yet! Then yet more stressage for the black beast, but hopefully less stressful than our Aintree outing!

Looking forward to the report on straightness and then dressage this weekend JFTD :).

My birthday tomorrow so think we'll just go for a nice hack. Dressage at Priory Saturday - never done AM96 or 98 before so could be interesting as these tests tends to take some practice to polish but got to start somewhere. Sunday I was gonna take him hunting with the RMA but they've moved the hunt from nice, safe Elstead to Elvetham which is a lot more risky for him and ground won't be as good. Gutted as now missed out on chance to do CT at Coombelands - could still head down there to SJ but bit bleugh about it all now :(

Can I put in an early request for reports with photos from everyone please? :D I love reading about what other people are up to *nosey*.

I'm driving a 350 mile round-trip to pick up my new saddle on Saturday - you would've thought that with the amount I'm paying for it it'd be delivered to me, but noooooo (I'm just a teensy-weensy bit annoyed).

On the plus side, after a very expensive week, vets have confirmed that my horse is OK with no pain issues that are causing her behaviour and given me the go-ahead to crack on :). With that in mind I think we'll have a short hack Sunday and she how she feels in the new saddle.

Probably take F for a hack on Saturday then we've got a yard sj clinic on Sunday. 3 people in the group. Rosettes to 3rd place. Hehe. Excited that xc places are opening up, dying to do a trip to a local xc place one weekend.

I think i've missed your saddle saga too FW, such a pain when its so out of your control!

Cant believe you've got to drive that far to pick one up DF, i thought 150miles round trip was a long way for a saddle.

Jealous of all you out eventing/ CT/ and dressaging. There's Strangles in the area so all the comps round us have been cancelled :(

I have a grid work lesson at home on Saturday, then will be infant of the TV all afternoon for the Super Saturday or Rugby! Then Sunday i was supposed to be hunter trailing at Tweseldown but after yesterdays adventures going to give it a miss until i can get there schooling again. (See post in C&T for very entertaining pictures!) So may go unto the gallops for a hooley!

It's published on F's page. Longest sodding post in history! I'm not prepared to post it on here and have two flunking, dull posts go south at the same time :p

Thank you for the write up and it certainly wasn't dull! The bend stuff is really interesting to me because it's been an almost constant battle with my horse for a while now - we'll have a few weeks of 'good' bend and then it'll all go to pot for a fortnight or so (usually coinciding with a competition) and then go straight back to normal. I wonder if it's more a case of the horse reacting to me riding differently. Something to think about!

A question from a nosey person: was the 'Straightness Training' by MdJ mentioned at all? I know Sylvia Loch and Heather Moffet are both quite disparaging about it being a special 'thing' so would be interested to see what other classical trainers think :).

(I can't believe how much Fergus has greyed out from the baby photo :-O )

It was meant to be posted to me 2 weeks ago! I'm paying a rather large fortune and have no saddle at the moment so a choice between 'wait 4-6 weeks for a fitter to be in the area', or 'drive and get it' wasn't a hard one :p.

Eek and :( at the Strangles, I can't say I blame you for staying home. I hope you're feeling better after the unplanned dismount XC schooling!

Thank you. I'm glad it wasn't too dull - I tried to liven it up a bit (my notes are pretty dry, apart from CdK's quotations!). Yea, possibly. I think you go through phases with things - I know mine can be inconsistent and throws issues on different sides just to keep me guessing. But equally, if you tense up around competitions or become more "argh must get this right" about things (I do!) you may well become the egg rather than the chicken in that instance...

No, it wasn't mentioned at all, as far as I recall. Actually I don't think any real mention of in hand work came up (Gerd mentioned it in passing, but seemed to prefer the idea of going out and riding in straight lines around the countryside and galloping in a light seat instead :D but perhaps he didn't mean to sound like that - it was a throwaway comment).

I know they disapprove of using the whip on the cannon to train the piaffe in hand, as piaffe should come from engagement, forwards (hind legs to hand) and not be a circus trick for the ego of the trainer/rider. But I couldn't say if that relates to MdJ or not.

eta: yep, he's white now :eek3: Terrifying - I never really noticed it happening either! And good luck with saddlegate!

F has just got back from the vets after a suspensory op- another 4 weeks of box rest- so he can have a pamper session both days.

Fab report, very interesting and well written you sell yourself short! Very much looking forward to Daemons report now :).

planning a nice hack with a friend tomorrow morning and then lots of tack and horse cleaning in prep for Combined Training for our riding club on Sunday at Rosehill.
my plan is to try for a much longer warm up this time with loads of transitions to get him in front of my leg and also so he isn't quite so "lit up" when we do the dressage test.

oh and also not to forget the test and not be too tense, keep leg on horse oh.....and to breathe...........................I always get myself so worked up before these things, but do enjoy them when we get there ..LOL

good luck to all those out competing and Happy Birthday Star :-)

Aim of this weekend is to get the boy thinking forward, we will make the time eventing! Interval training on the beach tonight, hack tomorrow then a fun ride on Sunday.
Good luck to everyone.

I have 2 and a half very fit and very ready horses to go showjumping but also one very dead lorry! So will spend tomorrow getting the batteries off that and also preparing it for MOT,as its due sometime around now.
So jealous of everyone getting out and about, my dad is on box rest for a while so I am practising my theory for my LGV like mad, it is something i reallly need to do!

Got my youngster 1st "fun" ride on Saturday, wearing our neon orange matchy matchy so at least if she s*ds of with me we'll be seen from space, think Sunday will be recovering.

We've got a trade stand at Swalcliffe BE this weekend - pop over if you're there! It's my Birthday on Sunday, then I'm off work Monday competing BD (against my instructor!) and I'm test riding for judges training Tuesday followed by XC schooling

Lola was a good girl schooling yesterday, I really let her down at the competition today meaning she didn't get she score the deserved.
She was really awesome though and felt the best she has in a test at a brand new venue - she ended up on 66.57 and 9th/ 19 with me going disastrously wrong.. Poor girl might have got a frilly if it wasn't for her riders ineptitude... Next time!

Am currently visiting the OH in Monmouth so nothing exciting pony-wise this weekend :( Next week, however, is shaping up to be more exciting with a flatwork lesson on Monday and a couple of other outings planned for later in the week :D

Operation 6-hour-drive-to-get-saddle was success and we got a tour of the factory which was really interesting and the owner was lovely :).

Got home and went straight to the yard to try the saddle on - my intention was to just walk and trot a little. We ended up jumping 90cm :o. Horse very much likes the saddle, as do I :D.

(What do we think of her weight?)

2hr hack for us tomorrow and hiring an arena XC course early in the week with the intention of going XC schooling towards the end of next week :).

That saddle is beautiful as is your horse.

Fun ride mostly successful, waiting for the professional pics, hope I don't look too stupid despite being dressed as a traffic cone

She's a lovely weight DF and that's a very nice saddle!

I had a lovely time xc schooling, but the day started stressful so I wasn't sure I was going to.

When I turned out first thing I got in a bit of a muddle as I had 3 horses so ended up dropping G's lead rope, normally this isn't a problem and he just finds the closest patch of grass to nibble on for a minute. Not today, oh no, he decided he'd take himself off to the field and not wait for me. Left him out a couple of hours, then brought him back in to get ready. Everything was scary today, he was snorting, prancing and planting, so I decided to give him a calmer as he was obviously in one of those moods.

Got there no problem (my friends horse loaded very well) but thought we were going to have a moment when a string of racehorses came up the gallops just as friend was about to mount, but the boys contained themselves. We were the first ones out on the xc course this year and we were on our own, so the ground was amazing. Started off with a small log, over and back down a bank followed by a small brush. We ended up doing this several times, playing with going back to trot over the bank, halting shortly after the brush, and going the over way, until G was listening to me and not trying to take control. Then we moved onto some steps, up and down, then linked the steps with the log/bank/brush combo. My friend went and jumped the ditch and a few bigger fences. She's a lovely rider and very positive, so although her horse was worried about the ditch, she got him going over it like a pro!

Did a few more individually, a log pile, a tiger trap and a house, then put them all together. G tried to take over after the log pile, so I circled, brought him back round and did it again so that we could easily do the turn to the tiger trap then the house.

We moved onto the water which G didn't even blink at, we played with walking in, trotting out, then trotting in and cantering out, up to trotting in, cantering out and jumping a lovely roll top a couple of strides later. This was really good fun!

My friend and I both felt really positive at this point so the instructor got us to have one final round at putting a few together and we finished on a really good note.

G wasn't on his best behaviour today but I coped well with his little tantrums and it means that on days when we go out and he is well behaved it will make it all seem very easy.
