Weekend plans

Went stressaging in a jump saddle wearing an air jacket and a 5 point BP (and did not care 😂) and :D

Had a bash at a prelim as well but while she went reasonably well the navigator went wrong twice despite having a caller and she also felt it was about time there were some jumps in the equation so was rather onward bound. :o

Main issue I have is she chomps nearly all the time and waggles her head around (technical term). I know I'm not able to have a consistent enough contact as she is better with my instructors on her, but she also doesn't help matters as I don't have this issue with my other horses. Considering a drop or perhaps a bag over her head for next time.

Well done FW, she looks mega :). What bit is Daisy in? Mine used to be very chompy and unsteady in the contact and has been like a different horse since changing to a mullen mouth hanging cheek (mine is a myler knock-off I had off eBay for £19 :p ). Peaches' prospective husband looks lovely!

So sorry to hear about Frodo, Levrier :(. I'm glad you've managed to find a horse to have fun with now.

I jump her in a non dressage legal myler and I thought her new NS lozenge knock off was much better in terms of chomping. But she was not good in that department today. To be fair tho this is the venue we go to for lots of SJ and arena eventing (sans dressage) so I probably just need to do more flatwork there. She's much better at home on grass but I nearly never jump her at home so she knows it's boring flatwork and goes quite well!

We went to Pachesham dressage festival. Monts was a bit flat - he had a big wee after and weather is a bit warm for his liking plus not ideal warmup due to it being flooded. Only our 2nd go at Advanced 102. He scored 7's for his tempi changes, nailed all 9 of the changes and got 60.44% o not as good as our debut (63.97%) but anything over 60% at Advanced I am welcoming with open arms!

Fab results coming in and I love that stallion.

We went to Hanbury Countryside Show and had an entertaining day to say the least and thankfully no one got hurt.

It seems health and safety is not a factor in the horse section of this show, all the rings are down one side of a large field with the warm up arena's down the other side, thus leaving a large walkway down the centre to which all horses need to use to access the arena's, the public, the world, it's wife, pushchairs with balloons, all dogs, emergency vehicles and Uncle Tom Cobley also congregate and wander about on.

The rings started with aff jumping, unaff jumping, flat and WH classes, unaff flat showing, MM and finally the family type classes. The most congested area was the far end with the family classes. The horses came out of the lorry park at the top end adjacent the aff jumping. As you can imagine by mid day the whole place was very busy and the shout of 'loose horse' was barely heard.

A grey horse came from the top end of the field in total panic with the saddle attached to the breastgirth being dragged underneath the horse. People were knocked over, horses were smashed into, it really was an awful scene. The horse was trying to get alongside other horses for comfort as they do when panicked but of course with the saddle chasing it the fear just kept increasing. It ended up in the family pony class area and someone caught it. Just half an hour later a bay horse did the same, this time the saddle was underneath but still girthed, again carnage. Then, a man with a double buggy decided to push his way through the group of ROR's waiting to go in the ring, how the buggy did not get pushed over I don't know and he had the cheek to shout at a lady holding the racehorse that shied into him.

Anyway, our pocket rocket survived it all and was just mildly upset at being barged into by the grey. She was a very good girl and tried hard in the ridden cob class which was the biggest class of the day with 11 in it including a Robert Oliver horse. She finished 2nd with nicer cobs below her but they were not as mannerly as her and did not go as well as she did. I thought the judges were very fair in the judging and it was nice to see manners and ride being taken into account over appearance.

😱 oh my goodness I was going to go to the Hanbury show !! What was the reaction of the organisers??

Nothing that I know of. Personally I think the layout needs a rethink for next year. How the grey did not kill someone is just down to pure luck.

Loving the show reports and photos. Loving the dressage too, great photo FW, and was right there (metaphorically speaking) at Hanbury.

We had a different type of weekend, but it is still "training" so I will join in. Jay Man is on week 4 of trot work, after 6 weeks of walking, after 9 months off with a suspensory injury.

The funny thing is that when resting he was well behaved, and when 6 week walking he was great, be that on the road in heavy traffic or off the road... but... the first time we trotted in a straight line on a field I ended up sitting on my bottom on the grass!

Since then I have had a few more frisky moments, where he has felt rather well, and after 3 weeks we started to do trot work in the school instead, mostly going large. Maybe not as good for him, but much more comfortable for me!

So yesterday 20 minutes in the school, including some rather expressive trot, followed by 40 minutes hacking round the village.

Not as exciting on paper as some of the other weekends, but exciting to me after so long off games for both of us.

I cannot begin to say how ridiculously excited I am - Jensen's first ever XC schooling session today at Lincomb, and he was amazing! So genuine, so honest, he is very green and has a lot to learn (and I have a lot to remember!) but he has reminded me what fun is all about..... delighted, ecstatic, pathetically pleased, you name it I am it tonight :D

Amazing well done :)

Also well done to everyone else - seems like a very succesfull HHO weekend!

We went to the Sparsholt Festival dressage, was a bit apprehensive as it would be the biggest atmosphere Ruby's been in but thankfully it wasn't overly buzzy and she was a complete star - really chilled, maybe even a bit too chilled, warm up was good test was nice but a little strong and a bit behind my leg but otherwise very obedient and calm, didn't spook at any of the banners or flowers so really pleased with her attitude. Nice score of 68.2% for Prelim 17 which had us in 2nd behind my friend on 72% for the whole class until the last couple of people put in 69 &70%'s so still really pleased to finish 4th at her first bigger dressage show :) Now just waiting for Photographic evidence!

Brilliant. Nice comeback :)
We may one day be going head to head again one day but I have a lot of schooling to do before that can happen.

Does that mean what I think it means??

I've got to admit I think having a go at ODEs even if we are captain slow XC has made a massive improvement to him

Yes it does. Now have a 16.3 8yo Irish mare to school and compete. Owner just wants horse to do something so we are starting off working on the flatwork then add in some SJ with final plan being a return for me to BE. All a while away yet as have some serious work to do on the flat first. Nice mare though.

then sunday i helped at wellington riding clubs combined training show all day, which was lovely, then lola played in the double bridle for the first time properly :) she was ace!!

I love Lola LW, especially the jumping :).

And well done to MrsH and LP! Great results all round this weekend.

We didn't do any hacking or make it to the Ben Hobday XC clinic as it's looking increasingly likely that whatever caused the big cut on M's leg has done some internal damage too :(. Vet out tomorrow so I'll know more then.

Fingers crossed its not serious DF :(

Couldn't love the donkey much more after this weekend. He came 5th out of 12 in the working hunter, jumping a really lovely clear and behaving very well in the ring for his first show. Then 4th in the 85cm which was the biggest SJ we've done and as ever he got me out of a few tight spots and took control (in a good way!) when I threw him at fences at stupid angles! Brilliant boy.
