Cant believe its Friday and do one has done a weekend plans thread

So come on what are you up to ?

Me, I'm taking my Irish draught baby - Indigo Morning Star off to our first dressage diva event ! Our first competition, ever, never been to the venue before, and I haven't practised my test yet. I'm stupidly excited, got to change the mud monster into a diva tomorrow ready for Sunday

Dressage show for K tomorrow, this time following the actual plan of doing the elementary qualifier and the easier medium.no crazy times this week ;)

The bloodhounds are meeting next door so Millie will be exercising herself in the stable.

Hunt ball in the evening, so...

Quiet day on Sunday , bit of riding and teaching. Got a rubbish cold and so does OH so not planning on going too wild at the ball :o

I should have lots of plans as I have a new horse but today I'm knackered and not doing anything and tomorrow I need to work all day. And I still need to introduce my new boy to you all but haven't got lots of pics yet (sun is shining today so it's all good opportunity).

Rara sounds a busy week
FW oooh fun fun fun!
MP hope Kira's gone well for you today
TFF hope you had a dry and fun hack
Asha good luck on your debut tomorrow!

Come on JB we need at least one pic!

We didn't go to the xc as it was really blowing a gale and miserable and it's not cheap to spend your morning there getting soaked. Instead we hacked out four horses (well 3 ponies and one very big horse) and feel rather pleased with ourselves.

However there is a winter woollies working hunter show tomorrow and I am thinking about going as it's meant to be a decent day. However what the H do I do with this?? Have chopped some hair from his tail and am going to attempt to make some fakes but how will I attach them. Solutions please?

Photo is misleading by the way there is less mane than it looks the middle is pretty much bald and the outsides are a little whispy

*smug face cos I've met him in person * hope Nelson is continuing to settle in well :)

Full of streaming cold but we didn't disgrace ourselves, even if my eyes were so blurry I couldn't really see the arena letters! Atishooooo! ! :o

I was working most of the day at a local yard for some extra pennies, so took ruby with me this morning so we could hack out at lunch with a friend. Had a lovely ride until a couple of miles from home walking down a track under some trees, without any warning a branch of brambles leapt out and attached itself to my face, there was a lot of blood and i now have bramble scratches from one side of my face to the other! Good job i didn't have a hot date planned tonight! :D

Tomorrow we are going showjumping, hopefully not till the afternoon so i can have a lie in!

Boring again, just schooling. Flatwork today as others wanted to jump and I wasnt going to hold them back with my pitiful tiny jumps. Will do that tomorrow.

Had fun in the arena anyway. Someone had dared to move the fillers at the side of the arena to a new spot (about a metre away from where they originally were). Horse thought they were obviously going to kill him, so had to spend a while walking and trotting past them until he stopped jumping sideways as soon as we got to them. I THINK I actually made progress on his extended trot, it did feel like he extended at least. Sadly he was trying to chase the mare in the arena down the long side so dont think that really counts as progress (does it?!) but he did it in an outline so its progress to me. Worked on his bending around all of the jumps, and left to get out of the way of the jumpers.

Will hopefully jump tomorrow after we remove the top pole from all of the jumps. Will be better next week, finally managed to book a lesson!

Nervous laugh. That was me letting him go forwards. I know you are right but I am so scared I can't even describe it. We got round without a stop and clear twice which is an improvement on last time out. Good week of lessons ahead so hoping that they go well and I stop feeling so pathetic.

I understand completely - that's where I was this time last year, you'll amaze yourself as your confidence grows x

Yep, I've just started to do more regular sj practice these last two weeks. A long long way to go but am feeling less freaked out about jumping, have started to get the hang of having him go more forward but leaving him to jump out of his own stride rather than trying to jump the fences for him. We're both feeling so much better about things. After three sessions were now doing a couple of 85/90 fences which for me is a big deal, as I've got a real issue going above 75.

I really feel the height isn't the actual issue. We know he can jump any height I'm going to put him at. The issue is the canter and how I am feeling. His default is to faff about on the spot and I am more likely to encourage that behaviour than getting him really forward. But I was getting the canter a lot more forward until we went to the flipping xc thing and he was a moron and I got put off a bit so will keep trucking on for the moment.

We had a fab day ! She was fabulously well behaved, we didn't disgrace ourselves , and scored 64.35%. Proper chuffed with her. Not the best photos as it was foggy. Actually looking forward to having another go. We got some lovely comments from the judge too.

Yes she was awesome today! We had an unfortunate 4 faults in both the 90cm and the 1m, which was her first time at that height, but she jumped absolutely amazingly, i was having trouble staying on! Obviously both the poles were my fault!

Lucky you to have gallops nearby. Wish we did sometimes, although I'd need to become very brave to be able to go on them ha.

No jumping work today, was more fun working on transitions. Attempted to teach him walk to canter and he was getting it, but just lacking the muscle to get it correct everytime. He got very sharp from that and I think I got a few strides of extended canter down the long side when I asked him to go. Did get a bit worried he wasnt going to stop and just go straight out of the gate at the end, but he did and he did a nice collected canter too. This is all after he nearly collapsed into a heap after our warm up trot because I think, he tripped over his own feet. He managed to go down onto his knees but got back up straight away. No injury either thank god. Worked a bit on leg yield and shoulder in too in walk only.

It's great to follow everyone's updates! FW and Bernster - I enjoy following your progress as I'm targeting a ODE in the summer with Pocholo (just an unaffiliated 80) having not competed xc since my early teens. Some days it seems like an easy target and other days it terrifies me!

We had a busy weekend. After 3.5 months away from the competition arena (he pulled a muscle in our last outing to Sparsholt in October), Indio is back! He was so excited to see the lorry and bounded up the ramp with enthusiasm.

We went to Summerhouse on Friday, which is a new venue for us. First up was Novice 22, which we'd never done before. It flows nicely and with his new-found canter balance the counter canter to trot transitions are no longer a worry. We had a small disagreement in left canter as he wanted to fly off into medium on the 20m circle, and in right canter he popped in a flying change at the end of the medium. Overall I was very pleased with him, particularly as he was such a happy camper. He walked back to the lorry as if he owned the place :)

Next was Novice 39, I think he may have burned off a lot of energy by then! The first medium trot felt fantastic, right 10m circle he decided to look at our lorry which was parked behind the judge, and we didn't manage much of the second medium trot on the short diagonal. Canter was pretty good, he got a bit tight in the left medium (which was on a 20m circle, he may have remembered my correction from the last test) and broke early in the right canter-trot-canter transition. It was a big improvement on our previous attempts though so I was very happy with him!

Sadly the judges didn't seem to like me (or my fellow livery who came along) and we scored 61.8% in N22 and 61.5% in N39, our lowest scores at BD apart from the October Sparsholt debacle. I suspect we didn't compare well to the other competitors, who were mostly dressage / eventing pros on stunning warmbloods! Sheets are coming in the post and it will be interesting to read the comments.

Vids are here for anyone interested:

On Saturday I made a last minute decision to take Pocholo to an unaffiliated combined training. It's so easy to learn a short arena Prelim dressage test having done long arena Novices! We arrived a bit late so didn't have quite enough warm up time, but he did a sweet test for just under 67%.

P was a bit surprised to go to the jumping warm-up rather than back to the lorry. He jumped the cross pole and upright nicely, so I went to jump the warm-up oxer (which was a full-up 80) and we had a bit of a striding disagreement - I wanted an extra stride but he decided to do a Thistlecrack impression and took a flier! I brought him round again and he stopped, he seemed to have scared himself. We dropped it down and he jumped, then built it up again and he popped it confidently.

Went into the arena...and you can see what happened on the video. Bless him, he wasn't being naughty but he seemed to have completely lost confidence (I doubt it's ever happened to him before, he's such a cocky little soul!). We're off jump training with my trainer this Friday and next Friday so we can work on it. I think it will do us both good in the long run as we'll both have to think a bit more when tackling bigger, wider fences!

Sunday a friend came over and we did a lovely (but muddy!) long hack. I can't wait for spring...

Gosh he really didn't like fence 3 did he! When my horse ducks out, my instructor makes me pull him up, give him a couple of taps in front of the fence and then come round again, don't know if that approach would help your boy?

It wasn't naughtiness though (he has done naughty duck-outs before and quickly learned it's easier just to jump through a similar technique to yours ;-) ), it was a genuine loss of confidence and 3 was the first full size oxer. We'll build him back up again then and hopefully he'll be flying again soon! I'll do a smaller course on our next competitive outing too, as last time he tried to duck out the jumps were small enough (70) that I could keep him straight and jump from a standstill if needed.

What a shame. It looks like a nice arena and jumps. He sounds like a cracker though, so am sure you'll sort that out. I've got a few combined events in the diary for a bit later this year, to get the hang of doing more than one a day. I reckon F will be most unimpressed at having to get back out and compete ! Having trouble finding any unaff ode for practice though, really want to do a couple before I tackle the BE80!

You'd be surprised, these are about an hour away from us so we don't go that often but there are a few about. Plus the gallops are so not scary, they are nicely fenced so they can only go one way and these have a lovely tiring graduated hill  ;) no sillies to be had they were too tired!
