So this weekend we took part in our first ever 2 Day Event (Long format) and wow what a weekend.

This was only my 3rd ever time XC as well!!

So Day one:

Dressage - he felt amazing, I was super proud of him. We were told later in the day by our Club Chair that we'd got 24.8 which I was super pleased with.

Here's the pictures :D

Less than an hour and we were onto the Show jumping. Just 80cm, but considering I didn't really jump until my bang to the head during my accident last year we are having a ball. There was very few clears as people were moaning about the course. I was just determined that we didn't want time faults..... rattled one pole, but CLEAR and in the time!! Wahoo

Quick look at the leader board later in the day to see we were lying second by just 0.8!! WOW!! Always dreamt of doing a ODE as a little girl, never did it! So I'm seriously living the dream right now.

Being a little nervous about hacking since the accident and especially as I don't hack alone I was a little worried over the roads and tracks, but the organisers said we were allowed to ride them on the Saturday, so I paired up with a team member and we had a lovely little walk about which helped set me up for day two.

Day Two, now we are always slow at jumping, so we knew we wouldn't still be in the placings after today, but we were out to have fun, and to face my fears as the steeple chase fences were HUGE!! They were the same fences for the 80s, 90s and 100s!!

I watched a few go and thought ok, downed the rescue remedy and on I got. Walked around the warm up feeling myself getting really worked up before phase A which was the first track section, que me having a mini melt down and a few tears! At my age!

Off we went, first time using a stop watch, perfect £2.39 one from eBay as recommended on a facebook group! was about 15secs behind at my first marker, but that was ok as we'd planned for a nice canter round the 3rd field. Came back well within the time and had a ball.

Onto the steeple chase, I felt sick, not helped by a stroppy steward, off we went, down we hadn't done a warm up fence all day, so the first jump my boy had seen was a huge steeple chase fence. I'm known for talking to my horse all the time, so on the approach to the first fence, all my riding club supporters heard was "Ready.... 3... 2.... 1.... jump!!" and we were over it, and my nervous settled, 2 laps, 6 fences, in 2 minutes..... nope we were over time.... but clear so happy!! About 25seconds over, but we can improve on speed.

Onto the 3rd phase another slower paced hack, gorgeous scenery but knew we had 2 crossings with the XC course that was by this time in full swing.... but we had a lovely time, which I think this photo shows (us trotting to the vets gate)

5 minutes to represent to the vet and his heart rate was fine to go again...

another 5 minutes and we were off....

Nice small one to start as we'd not jumped for half an hour

flew round, including a fantastic gallop up the hill, Flew everything, clear.... just slow!! 100 seconds over, but I don't care, we can improve on speed. It's a mixture of my inexperience and a result of the bolt on the road / accident. But it's getting faster!!

photo of the smaller hill

Finished!!

We finished on just over 70, so 18th in our section.

But I'm still smiling now, although even after a rest day yesterday I'm aching! haha

cookies for all that read to the end!! Thanks for reading!! My work colleagues wouldn't understand!!

Gosh, that sounds fab, well done. Not really heard of places still doing the old style tracks part of a ODE. He looks full of running and really nice photos. Sounds like a great couple of days.

Great report, so jealous I would love to take part in a 2DE! Very well done a double clear and a cracking dressage score :), speed as you say can be worked on. Looking forward to more reports now.

You were awesome! Fab report, you should be really proud. And I'm glad we helped settled your nerves with a 'plod' round the R&T! :)

Can't wait for Solihull!
